🎆 Celebrate Safely This Fourth of July 🎆
Holidays can be full of fun—and also full of pressure. If you're in recovery or working on staying substance-free, having an exit plan can make all the difference.

🧠 Why it matters: An exit plan helps you stay in control, avoid triggers, and protect your mental and physical health.

🚪 Examples of a solid exit plan:
✅ Drive yourself or have your own ride
✅ Set a time limit for how long you'll stay
✅ Bring a sober friend or support person
✅ Have a reason ready to leave early (“early morning,” “family plans,” etc.)
✅ Know where your safe spaces are if you need a break

Your health and recovery come first. Plan ahead so you can enjoy the holiday—your way. 💙

We want to congratulate Dr. Chelsey Zoldan-Calhoun for being elected the new board chair. We look forward to where your commitment to collaboration and passion for advocacy will take the Board.

Dr. Zoldan-Calhoun will be taking over for current board Chair Eric Ungaro. During his tenure, Mr. Ungaro oversaw the passage of the board’s levy and contributed to the growth of the Police Crisis Intervention Training program. He also supported su***de prevention efforts targeting at-risk men.

We also would like to welcome new officers, Rachel Chmielewski as vice chair, Patricia Sciaretta as treasurer and Anne Cobbin as secretary. The board also appointed three members at large: former board chair Eric Ungaro, Linda Warino and J. Brent Kelley.

Finally, the Board wants to give a heartfelt thank to two founding members, Robert Gavalier and Apostle Jenkins. Both played key roles in establishing the board and shaping its mission.

We will learn more about these officers and thank those who are completing their service later in July.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board elected new officers during its June meeting, advancing its mission to support the community’s mental health and recovery needs.
