Make sure you pack some delicacies with you. I hated kapenta but i had wished i carried some 😂. Carry some spices, dry veggies, vinkubala, dry fish, kapenta, soda, throw in some cooking sticks for Nshima. Don't pack things you won't need. Remember you are starting life from scratch, all you will have are your suitcases. I would carry some bedsheets for starters too, coz you will have to buy all that. Make a first aid box, pack some Tylenol, brufen, antibiotics, eye drops etc. Insurance is expensive, so as you figure things out, you will have something to start with especially if you have kids. If there's space I would throw in some bimalu pots for nshima. Otherwise I appreciate 24/7 electricity and water. That's one thing I don't have to worry about for sure. Hated load shedding. Most apartments come with a stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washer and dryer. So you are covered there!! Let me know what else to share!

Speaking English 24/7 is crazy guys. I thought I knew English until I came here. I couldn't even pronounce my name right apparently, Martha is pronounced differently here. I was irritable in the beginning coz no one ever understood what I was saying... kwenze Che ma huh huh....what did you say? They thought am quiet kansi nichi zungu Che. How do you even gossip in English? Or argue? So apa manje exactly 7 yrs later my accent is abit different. It's gotten better. Probably just adapted Kaya.

If you are coming in with a partner, talk about how best you can support each other. 12 hour shifts are draining. It's really hard. You can't come home and start cleaning up after someone and cooking. So whoever is home when the other is working, needs to up their game and help out. Otherwise, you will be burnt out so quick.
