Bee Inspired by Nature to Nourish Us All
World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20, the birth date of Anton Janša (1734–1773), a Slovenian beekeeper, the pioneer of modern beekeeping.
This year’s theme is “Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all.” The theme highlights that bees nourish everyone, not just in the important role they play in food production, but in our broader environment, strengthening landscapes that we can all enjoy every day.
World Bee Day raises awareness of the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to a sustainable future. It provides an opportunity for governments, organizations and concerned citizens worldwide to promote actions that will protect and enhance pollinators and their habitats, improve their abundance and diversity, and support the sustainable development of beekeeping.
