August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month.
Gastroparesis is a condition often described as living with a paralyzed stomach. People with gastroparesis often have food sitting in their stomachs for long periods of time, which causes vomiting, chronic nausea, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea. The symptoms of the illness can and often do lead to weight loss, malnutrition, brain fog, vitamin deficiencies, dehydration and fatigue.
While there is still much to learn about gastroparesis, continued research, awareness, support, better diagnosis, and treatment of the disorder can lead to a better quality of life.
Our hope at Huron Gastro is to spread awareness of this debilitating disease. If you believe you or a loved one is suffering from this disorder, or have general questions about it, talk with your physician or healthcare provider.
The more we work together to raise awareness for gastroparesis, the greater our ability to impact positive outcomes!
