It’s officially 5 years that Common Source has been in Ypsi!! While I opened in 2014, I really feel like Common Source was born when we relocated here. Since then it has blossomed into such a wonderful community space. I love that I get to live and work in my community. I love that I get to walk or bike to work and when I’m out and about for a leisurely weekend, I bump into many of you. I love that I get to help my neighbors and they (you!), reciprocally provide my life with meaning. Thank you so much for welcoming me and my family with open arms. Thank you for including me in this amazing community.

Since I’ve been in Ypsi, Common Source has:
- given nearly 12,000 acupuncture treatments,
- sold 225 lbs of western herbs
- provided over 30,000 doses of herbal granular formulas.
- lived through a pandemic, providing medical care and emotional support to first responders and essential workers

- hired 3 new employees, doubling our ability to provide acupuncture and opening up the apothecary to provide herbal support to people who are more hesitant to try acupuncture but are still interested in alternative medical options

- all of this after renovating a VERY dilapidated building (it had snake skins hanging from the ceiling when we were given keys), including building a privacy wall so we can have quieter acupuncture treatments!!

Excited to see what the next 5 years brings!! THANK YOU!!

the construction photos are from the day before I opened in August 2018. The others have been taken over the years. So much change!

We wanted to remind everyone to participate in the Ypsilanti Juneteenth Celebration 2023 in the S Huron Parking lot. To help access downtown on the weekends all summer, TheRide offers TheRide free bus rides to Ypsilanti District Library cardholders. Also, if you must drive, the N. Washington lot is available.

Two additional roads will be closed for the weekend programming Friday (6/16), Saturday (6/17), and Sunday (6/18).
-Ferris (Between Huron & Washington)
-Black Lives Matter Blvd-Washington (Between Michigan & Ferris)

Downtown Ypsilanti is a very active construction zone; please give yourself extra travel time and watch diligently for pedestrians.

Happy Lunar Summer Seasonal Node!!
“ With the new seasonal node come new dietary suggestions. One of the first is to avoid intemperance in food and drink. Overeating, especially of very heavy, sweet or greasy foods, places a burden on the Spleen. Overeating these foods, and overconsumption in general, also create internal heat that can worsen Heart Fire.”

The last few weeks have been somewhat chilly and rainy here in New Jersey, but despite that we’re seeing some really great tree peony blooms – one of my favorite parts of early May. Today through is an absolutely beautiful day with sun and temperatures in the 60s.  And, despite the recent c

I know that many of you will be coming downtown for First Fridays tomorrow but if you’re looking for something else to do, come watch us at our annual Capoeira Batizado!!

https://annarborcapoeira.com/

"Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art that combines elements of fight, acrobatics, music, dance and rituals in a very elegant and magnetic way!" -Mestre Lobinho

Every day before my acupuncture shift I practice about 20-30 minutes of Qi Gong. This helps me build up my defensive energy (“Wei” qi) and it keeps me balanced, loose and able to fend off other people's energy and pathology. I’ve been playing Capoeira for a little over a year and it has been the best extension of my Chinese Medicine practice. I was healthy before I started playing Capoeira, but I had no idea how much healthier I could be!!
There is an all-ages class on Saturdays in the old Chapelle Elementary school near Recreation Park. You should join us! It’s the most fun ever. My husband and I also attend the adult class on Wednesday evening. My abdominal muscles are sore today, not from the workout last night, but because we were LAUGHING so much!! We are so grateful to have Lohbino as part of our Ypsi community and we love being part of the Wolf-pack family!! Although Capoeira is extremely safe, it is still a martial arts. These are the products I use to stay loose and less sore (and we stock them all at Common Source!):

Po Sum On: ($20 for a 1oz bottle +plus you get a cool little tin too)

Dragon’s Blood Ointment: ($15 for 4oz)

Arnica: topical gel ($10); oral homeopathic pills ($7)

Moxabustion: $2/stick

Gua Sha: Jade tools $12

Cupping: 10 piece set $30

MAGNESIUM!!: Epsom salt soaks ($5/6lbs, or bath teas $3/bag) along with oral supplementation with Natural Vitality Calm ($18 for 8oz, $32 for 16oz)

Did you know that Common Source sells homemade herbal tinctures?!? Made right here in Ypsi with organic herbs (locally sourced when possible)! It’s SUPER important to us to make healing affordable, so we keep our prices as low as possible. 2oz tinctures are $10. We want to encourage a Zero-Waste lifestyle so if you bring the bottle back when it’s empty, we’ll refill for only $5! Consistency is key to health, so it MUST fit into your budget.

(Nicole has nearly 20 years of herbal training and clinical practice in Western herbal medicine and also a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine - which included 450 didactic hours and 240 clinical hours of training) She offers herbal consultations by appointment: CommonSourceHealing.as.me on a sliding scale of $20-$40, you decide what to pay on that scale, no questions asked!
