An important reminder from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (and many other professional health organizations): acetaminophen (Tylenol) is a safe, effective option for managing pain and fever during pregnancy.

Additionally, there is no single, root cause of autism. Autism is a natural part of human diversity and autistic people deserve respect and support.

Navigating pregnancy and parenthood can be hard, but you don’t have to do it alone.

➡️ If you're pregnant or have an infant and you have Medicaid, our Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP) is here to support the health of you and your family. MIHP social workers, nurses, and dietitians work together to promote healthy pregnancies, positive birth outcomes, and healthy infants. Call 734-544-2984 or learn more at washtenaw.org/mihp.

➡️ If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a child under 5, see if you are eligible for WIC! You can get nutritious food, breastfeeding support, health referrals, and more from WIC. Call 734-544-6800 or visit washtenaw.org/WIC.

National Preparedness Month is a great time to take small steps to make a big difference in being prepared. Getting yourself, your family, and your home ready for emergencies like home fires, power outages, and local floods means you’re more prepared for disasters.

📋 Make a plan: set a meeting point and create a plan for what your family will do in an emergency.

🔦 Build an emergency supply kit: make sure you have non-perishable foods, flashlights, and other essential items.

⚠️ Stay informed: sign up for local alerts today at washtenaw.org/alerts.

It only takes a little prep now to keep your family safe later. Find more tips at Ready.gov.

Happy National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day!

Because of the incredible medical advancements in HIV treatment, people are living long, full lives with HIV. More than half of people living with HIV in the U.S. are 50 and older.

Some were diagnosed later in life, while others have lived with HIV for many years. Estimates predict that by 2030, about 70% of all people living with HIV will be 50 and older.

This awareness day calls attention to the unique health needs of people living and aging with HIV, as well as the challenges of HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care among people who are aging.

HIV prevention and testing is still important as you age. Testing is particularly important for older adults who are living with HIV and don’t know it. Early diagnosis and enrollment in care are critical to starting lifesaving treatments.

➡️ We offer free, rapid HIV testing in a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment. Call 734-544-6700 to schedule an appointment or learn more at washtenaw.org/sexualhealth.

It's Week - which means it's time to talk p**p! 💩

In areas where public sewer is not available, homeowners must have septic systems installed on their property to treat wastewater coming from their home.

There are 50,000 homes in Washtenaw County with onsite septic systems. Proper care of these systems can save money, protect public health, and preserve the environment.

Our environmental health team is here to help you stay septic smart! Learn more: washtenaw.org/septic

Special shout out to our EH director, Kristen Schweighoefer, for getting everyone in the septic smart spirit!

Our newest report shows that firearm death rates in increased overall in the last five years, but show a promising decrease in 2024.

“We are encouraged to see fewer deaths in 2024, which is our lowest year for gun violence deaths since 2019,” says Juan Luis Marquez, MD, MPH, WCHD medical director.

“Most of our local firearm deaths are from suicides. We urge community members to reach out for mental health support if you need it or if you are concerned about someone else.”
