New for this summer!

We’re excited to introduce our 9-hour/week play-based summer groups! These small groups are designed to build social connection, regulation, and confidence through engaging, child-led activities. We focus on interacting around shared interests, with group topics that adapt to the kids enrolled, while supporting communication, problem-solving, and learning to voice needs.

Our goal is to create a fun, structured environment where kids can build meaningful friendships and feel successful being themselves. Reach out to learn more or secure your spot!

Too much screen time is quietly changing childhood.

Children are sleeping less, struggling more emotionally, losing interest in offline play and finding it harder to focus, communicate and cope with boredom.

Many families now spend more time looking at screens than looking at each other.

And the hardest part?
A lot of this has become completely normal.

Children are getting phones younger. Endless scrolling starts earlier. Gaming and YouTube battles are exhausting parents. Family meals are interrupted by notifications. Bedtimes are delayed by screens.

This is not about blaming parents or banning technology. Screens are part of modern life. But children still need conversation, movement, sleep, outdoor play, attention and real connection to develop in a healthy way.

Sometimes the biggest difference comes from the smallest changes - putting phones away during meals, creating screen-free routines, protecting sleep and making more time for real-world connection.

Practice deep breathing and try the 3-3-3 Rule:

1. Look around and name 3 three things to see.
2. Listen and name 3 things you hear.
3. Tune in and move 3 parts of your body.

Drink some water and keep breathing, this too shall pass. 💚

“Some days, doing ‘the best we can’ may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect—on any front—and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.” —Mr. Rogers

Arts, Culture, and Benevolence presents "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" film & discussion Saturday May 16 8pm, movie starts once it gets dark

We'll be at MESS House 426 South Adams and have pizza made out of an Earth oven!!

In light of recent events, join us for a crucial film screening to understand the deep roots of the current U.S./Venezuela conflict. As the situation escalates, it is more important than ever to examine the "why", how history, foreign intervention, and economic warfare have led to this moment. The attempted U.S. regime change operation threatens catastrophic violence for the Venezuelan people and regional stability. Our country plays a major role. It's time to learn, discuss, and look beyond the headlines.

A reminder of who we are, what we do, and how you can plug in!

Around the Kitchen Table is a free brunch hosted the 3rd Sunday of each month (with the exception of November and May) from 11am-1pm at Growing Hope's Market Place Hall located at 16 S. Washington St. Ypsilanti.

Born from the strong belief in solidarity over charity, we aren't “helping the needy,” we’re building relationships and community by sitting at a table and sharing a lovely and nourishing meal together. This brunch is for everyone. We all need food and we all need relationships with neighbors. And as we like to remind - neighbors isn't defined only by a zip code, neighbors can be any group in which we find connection and relationship.

Our brunch is filled with an abundance of delicious foods that will fill your bellies and warm your soul. With egg dishes, breakfast meats, roasted herb potatoes, pancakes or french toast bakes, as well as salads and other sides - and don't forget fresh fruits and desserts, we have something for most everyone! To ensure we're accommodating as many folks as possible, we also have plenty (not an afterthought!) of vegan and vegetarian dishes along with gluten free options. You won't go away hungry. And though we encourage our friends to sit and enjoy their meal with others, we always offer take-away containers if you'd like to take your meal to go.

Because we are not financially supported by an 'agency' or other non-profit, and instead are a community-led group, we encourage those who have the means and are inspired by and/or enjoy our abundant brunch, to consider donating either a one time or monthly amount of your choice via our amazing fiscal sponsor, FedUp Ministries at this link: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-around-the-kitchen-table-brunch-today
All donations are tax deductible and any amount is welcomed and appreciated! We also accept cash donations on site if that's a better fit for you. See the complete list below for all of the ways you can connect and support to the Around the Kitchen Table Brunch:

🥦🥔🫑🥞 Support by supplying ingredients. We always have main dishes - roasted potatoes, egg dishes, tofu scramble, breakfast sausage (meat and veggie options), pancakes, etc... If you're able to provide an ingredient on a monthly basis, have a source/connection to get food from, or want to know more about what is needed, contact us!

🍓🍇🫐🍰🥧 Support by bringing fresh fruit or a dessert. This is the need that we mainly rely on those who attend to fill and we always go through a large amount of fruit and desserts. Homemade or store bought desserts are both welcome!

🥘🥗🥘🍲 Support by bringing a main or side dish to share. Please let us know in advance if an item will need to be warmed or plugged in so that we can best plan. Please be prepared to provide ingredients so that we can list allergen information for attendees.

👩🏾‍🍳🙋🏼‍♂️🧹 Support by showing up early (between 8am-8:30am) for kitchen help or hall set-up, jump in for dishwashing anytime prior to and throughout the brunch, stay for clean-up especially after 1pm.

💵💰💲 Support by donating funds to our brunch. A one-time donation or monthly donation of any amount is tax deductible through our fiscal sponsor, FedUp Ministries. You can find that option at this link: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-around-the-kitchen-table-brunch-today

And if you have another gift, talent, or idea you'd like to brainstorm about offering (maybe you're a musician, or you'd like to set up a kid's table or share supplies), please let us know! We're all about dreaming, scheming, and conspiring for good🥰

Reach out to Lisa Gizzi at 734.347.7784, email aroundthekitchentable365@gmail.com, or message us on this page. Let's talk about how you can plug in!

Cheers to good food, good neighbors, and to nourishing our bodies while challenging the systems that don't support us!

Understanding neurodiversity starts with understanding the language we use.

These terms aren’t just words but tools for naming our experiences, challenging oppressive norms, talking about power, rejecting psychiatric authority and creating spaces for all bodyminds to exist.

To dilute, distort or change the definitions of these terms (like saying neurodivergent doesn’t include mental health conditions) is to erase a movement, history and community rooted in liberation.
