🚫 Myth: “Speech therapy is just about fixing sounds.”
💡 Truth: Speech therapy is about much more than articulation!
Yes, we help with speech sounds like “R” or “S,” but that’s only one piece of communication. Speech therapy can also support:
🧠 Receptive Language (understanding) – This is how your child takes in and processes language. For example, following directions, understanding questions, knowing the meaning of words, or grasping concepts like size, time, and categories. If a child struggles here, they may seem like they aren’t listening or may get frustrated easily.
💬 Expressive Language (using words) – This is how your child shares their thoughts. It includes putting words into sentences, telling stories, asking for what they need, and using grammar. A child with expressive language challenges may use short phrases, have trouble finding the right words, or avoid talking altogether.
🤝 Social Communication – Building friendships, taking turns in conversations, understanding body language, and picking up on social cues.
🎤 Voice & Fluency – Supporting children with stuttering, fast speech, or voice difficulties.
🔤 Speech Sounds – Of course, we also work on clarity, so kids can be understood.
✨ At Woods Family Speech Therapy, our goal is to help children communicate confidently in all these areas — not just sound production. Communication is how kids learn, play, connect, and thrive. 💕
Would you like me to simplify this into a carousel idea (one slide for receptive, one for expressive, one for social/voice/articulation) so parents can swipe through instead of reading one long caption?
