This past weekend, a group of our dedicated clinicians at New Day Family Counseling Center & New Day Training Center completed Somatic Experiencing® Intermediate I (Phase 2) — continuing their advanced training in trauma-informed care.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Ben Seigler, a certified Somatic Experiencing practitioner and training assistant, our trainees, associates, and licensed therapists are deepening their ability to support clients through complex trauma with care, intention, and skill.

This phase of training deepens our understanding of how trauma is held within the nervous system—and how healing can happen gently, safely, and at a pace that honors each individual. From high-impact experiences to developmental trauma, our team continues to learn how the body responds, adapts, and ultimately heals.

Through this work, our team continues to refine skills in:
• Supporting nervous system regulation
• Working with trauma at a body-based level
• Gently guiding clients through activation using safe, titrated approaches
• Building resilience by allowing the body to process and release stored survival responses

At New Day, we believe:
Healing doesn’t have to be rushed.
Healing doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
Healing can happen one step at a time.

we understand how it lives in the body, and how healing happens through connection, safety, and regulation.

New Day Family Counseling Center is excited to welcome Melanie Jacobson, Trainee Therapist, to our Vacaville location!

Melanie provides a supportive, welcoming space for individuals and families navigating life’s challenges. She works with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, helping clients manage anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions with compassion and practical tools.

Available in Vacaville:
Monday • Wednesday • Thursday • Friday

💻 Telehealth available for clients anywhere in California

Melanie uses a collaborative approach that includes CBT, mindfulness, play therapy techniques, and person-centered care, helping clients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their healing journey.

✨ A New Season for New Day ✨

We are stepping into an exciting new chapter at New Day Family Counseling Center & New Day Training Center.

As the need for accessible mental health services continues to grow in Yuba-Sutter County, so does our commitment to meeting that need.

We are expanding into a larger space that will allow us to:

• Increase grant-funded therapy
• Launch more community groups
• Serve more low-income families
• Expand training space for clinicians
• Strengthen long-term access to care in our region

This moment represents growth, stability, and a deeper investment in the community we call home.

Over the next 60 days, we are inviting our community to be part of bringing this expanded space to life through our Building Hope Together campaign.

🌿✨ Healing in Nature. Healing in the Body. Healing in Community. ✨🌿

Yesterday, during a field trip at Seigler Family Farm in Oroville, our CEO, Dr. Ben, spoke with a group of middle school students about more than just farming.

He talked about slowing down.
About patience.
About listening to your body.
About being gentle with yourself.

Seigler Family Farm is a working organic mandarin orchard in Butte County — and it is also home to New Day’s Oroville counseling office. Yes, our therapy space is located right on the farm.

Why does that matter?

Because healing isn’t just something that happens in conversation. It happens in the nervous system.

At New Day, many of our clinicians are trained in Somatic Experiencing® and other body-based approaches. Somatic work helps clients notice sensations, regulate stress responses, and build nervous system resilience. Just like trees move through seasons, our bodies move through stress and recovery cycles. When we slow down enough to notice, we create space for regulation and healing.

Nature supports that process.

The open air.
The quiet rows of trees.
The rhythm of irrigation water.
The reminder that growth takes time.

We are especially passionate about serving children and adolescents. Kids often process the world through their bodies first — through movement, energy, sensation, and play. Being in a natural, grounded environment can help children feel safer, calmer, and more connected during sessions.
