We have received many a call with this question. The answer is twofold. One, EMPHATICALLY YES. COMPLETELY SAFE. And two, it isn't usually recommended.

Why? How can both of these things be true?
Stick with us, we'll explain, and there is an exception.

These answers are specifically regarding breast thermography and extend to breastfeeding mamas as well. And I'd add, here we are speaking about routine breast checkups/breast wellness thermography.

Thermography is completely 100% safe-- there is no risk to mother or baby when thermal imaging is done. There is zero radiation, no compression, no touching, etc.

It is as safe as having your picture taken (and we hope you're taking lots of pictures of that perfect bump)!

But because of the hormonal changes in the body, specifically the breast tissue as it prepares for breastfeeding, breast thermography isn't recommended until 3 months postpartum, or 3 months post breastfeeding if you choose to breastfeed.

Developing mammary glands and lactation impacts the breast tissue and can give you altered results in your thermography report. The breast tissue can also become inflamed during breastfeeding, which would alter your results as well.

It's important to note that other areas of the body are not affected thermally like this, so if you are having an issue in a different part of the body, thermography may be a fine fit during your pregnancy and breastfeeding journey.

Here is one exception to the "breast thermography isn't recommended for pregnant or lactating women" rule: If you have a lump or other concerning symptom in the breast, do not hesitate to contact us! We have seen many pregnant or lactating women in this situation and are happy to make a note for the interpreting physician informing them of your pregnancy or breastfeeding status. It is always absolutely worth it for your peace of mind!!!

This is a great question-- when using our HaloRed booth, will you need to completely disrobe? Absolutely not. In fact, we do require a minimum level of clothing (underwear).

That being said, red light is most effective the more skin it can reach-- so we advise you undress to YOUR level of comfort (leaving underwear on at minimum).

We do provide towels if you would additionally like to wrap up in a towel.

For clients booking salt therapy only, you can stay fully dressed if you like.

For all sessions, we do require removal of shoes in the space to help keep it clean. We also require that socks be left on. If you are not wearing socks, we are happy to provide you with a pair.

During a session you are in the room alone, unless you bring someone with you. We give you complete privacy and are not in the room with you during your session.

Any other questions related to this one?

We know many of our clients work to mitigate their exposure to EMFs, which are just about everywhere these days. We hear you, and that was important to us when selecting our red-light booth. We reached out to the manufacturer specifically about this to get as many details as possible.

HaloRed booths are specifically engineered to have low EMFs. When used at the recommended distance (6" or more), the light panels in our booth emit no detectable levels of EMFs.

One of the reasons HaloRed booths have much lower EMFs than other products is because the light panels contain only the electrical components needed to power and cool the lights (nothing extraneous added such as Bluetooth/Wi-Fi).

Some products on market include a special app to connect to during use, which is of particular concern. Our booth does not. Having an app necessitates a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signal from the device. Many times, these devices can emit a signal even when they are not in use! This means you could be unknowingly polluting your environment with EMFs 24/7. We don't want that!

There IS a Bluetooth speaker in the booth, which can be utilized if you'd like. The Bluetooth board is located in the roof of the unit and is oriented upwards toward the ceiling for the purpose of providing that capability for customers while keeping the EMF pollution to a minimum.

Can you sit in a red light or salt booth for too long?

Red light and NIR light are very safe and there are no known negative side effects, but more is not necessarily better. As little as five minutes is enough to reap the complete benefits of red-light therapy. Our red-light sessions will be bookable as 20-minute sessions, and you will always have the option of turning off the lights earlier or taking a break if you'd like.

Halotherapy (salt) sessions can currently be booked on their own as 15 minute or 30-minute sessions, or in conjunction with a 20-minute red light therapy session if you'd like to utilize both modalities at once.

In our HaloRed booth, you'll find a large red-light panel at each end of the booth. The booth is spacious enough for two people and includes seating for two.

The seating is removable, and if you're booking a session alone or with a lap child, we remove one of the chairs to make the booth more spacious and accommodating. We also provide soft towels if you'd prefer to sit on the floor of the booth, which is sometimes more comfortable for clients practicing deep breathing, prayer, or mindfulness exercises.

If you're seated in the middle of the booth, each panel will be 1.5-2 feet away from your body, but you are welcome to move the chair/your body as close as 6" away from the panels.

Both panels are on during the session, so you receive maximum red light benefit.

The new booth at Insight Wellness offers salt therapy and/or redlight therapy (can do either in a session or both in a session)!

Many people associate red-light therapy with pain relief and detoxification in the body. These are valid benefits of red-light therapy! But there is much more your body receives from red-light therapy, and this post is looking specifically at Near Infrared Light waves.

The red-light panels in our booth provide scientifically validated
wavelengths of Deep Red (630-660 nm) and Near Infrared
(830-850 nm) light. Red light is absorbed by the skin, boosting collagen production & aiding skin conditions. The NIR, or Near Infrared penetrates deeper, aiding muscle recovery, cellular renewal and joint pain.

Additional benefits include:

Skin Benefits: reduced wrinkles, facial lines, and skin roughness, as well as improved skin tone. NIR light also activates certain chemicals in the body's tissues that promote healthy mitochondria, causing tissue and wounds to heal more rapidly than on their own.

Energy Benefits: Most of the artificial light we are exposed to from our computers, smartphones, televisions, etc. emit blue light, which is not beneficial to our body. NIR light counteracts the harmful effects of blue light exposure and stimulates the body's mitochondria. This process can produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate3) which actually helps our cells gain more energy and rejuvenate themselves! There are a few molecules in human tissue susceptible to absorbing NIR light's wavelengths. Some of these molecules are connected to the body's energy production.

Pain Relief Benefits: Both red light and near infrared light therapy can assist in the management of chronic pain, including joint pain, muscle pain/soreness and fibromyalgia.

Sleep Benefits: NIR therapy helps to stimulate a healthy circadian rhythm as it generates more melatonin in the body. This circles back to the blue light notes above- as blue light has been found to impede our natural circadian rhythms, disrupting our healthy sleep patterns.

NIR therapy is becoming more widely known and widely available- including in our office space. What questions do you have for us? Leave a comment or send us a text (405-306-6340); we'd love to chat!

Another common question with our redlight/salt booth-- can you bring your device(s) in the booth with you?
Sure!
There is plenty of space in our booth suite for you to leave your device outside of the booth if you'd like some peace and quiet, and space from screens, but if you prefer to have your phone with you during your session that's fine too!

Our booth is equipped with a Bluetooth speaker you're free to connect to if you'd like to listen to music, a podcast, white noise, or meditation practice during your session. Feel free to bring your own earbuds or just use your phone's speaker if you'd rather.

*Note: The salt mist in our booth is incredibly fine, so you won't feel or see it as it is distributed in the booth. But your device will accumulate a very, very fine layer of salt on it if you bring it in the booth with you. This is easily brushed off, similar to dust.

Taking a look at another FAQ regarding redlight therapy today-

When using our HaloRed/Vitality Booth Plus, do you need to wear eye protection?

This is up to you, but goggles are recommended to be worn when facing the lights. We do provide them (and clean them between each usage).

We thought we would take a few days or so to answer some frequently asked questions about Red Light Therapy, HaloTherapy, their usages together and separate...as well as general questions about our HaloRed/Vitality Booth Plus.

(The booth isn't open to the public just yet, but everything is in order and we will be connecting with existing clients first, through our client portal as soon as we have booking and pricing options ready!)

One questions we've been asked a few times is about how long sessions should be.

In general, the answer to this question is 20 minutes, but there are some exceptions.

If a client opts for redlight therapy on its own, or in conjunction with halo(salt) therapy, the recommended session time is 20 minutes. If a client is electing to ONLY do halo(salt)therapy, the session could be a little longer.

Additionally, some clients may find they don't want to sit in the booth for 20 minutes-- you don't have to! The booth can be set to a few different time options, and you will also have the option to turn the booth off early if you need to.

With both redlight and salt therapy, some clients will feel the need to work up to the maximum allotted time-- beginning with just a few minutes per session and working up to longer sessions.

What questions do you have about this new service at Insight? We'd love to hear from you in the comments!
