What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. πŸ‘” Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. β˜• Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫢

Thank you to our incredible OTs for the difference you make every day. πŸ’™

πŸ’« Esperanza arrived to Life Care of Yuma in February after a left femur fracture. At her admission, she was dependent and required maximum assistance for all functional tasks, meaning it took 2 people to assist her with things like bed mobility, bathing, and dressing. While at Life Care, Esperanza received physical and occupational therapy 5 times a week.

When Esperanza discharged home on March 20, she was able to complete daily activities independently! πŸ‘ She'll be living home alone, with her daughter living right next door and checking on her daily. We're so proud you, Esperanza! 😊

πŸ’¬ Esperanza shared:
"The therapist and nurses were very good. I feel ready to leave. I have so much strength now, and I feel brand new. I'm happy with everything I learned, and I'm very thankful for all of you."

🌟 Kellie was admitted to Life Care Center of Yuma in January with sepsis. At her admission, Kellie required full assistance with bed mobility, transfers, all self-care tasks, and was unable to walk. While at Life Care, Kellie received physical and occupational therapy 5 times a week. πŸ’ͺ

On February 20, Kellie discharged home! πŸŽ‰ She became independent with all functional tasks and able to get around using a walker. πŸ‘ She plans to receive home health services and get a gym membership to keep up her strength. Our rehab team is extremely proud of Kellie and the work she put in made to meet all of her goals! 🩷

πŸ’¬ Kellie said:
"I'm proud of myself and feel like I've come a long way. The therapists were aces and never gave up on me. The CNAs and RNs were top-notch and never disrespectful. Everyone has been good and kind. The food and snacks were excellent, too. I even made friends here."

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’ΌπŸ‘©β€πŸ’Ό Leadership in long‑term care isn’t just about managing a building or overseeing a team. It’s about guiding a community that depends on steady hands and consistent, compassionate decision‑making.

✨ During Long‑Term Care Administrators Week, we are especially grateful for Life Care's Executive Directors who carry that responsibility with such excellence. Their choices shape the quality of life for residents who are often at their most vulnerable, and their leadership sets the tone for every caregiver who walks through the door.

It’s not glamorous work, and it rarely gets the spotlight it deserves, but its impact is enormous. πŸ’— Here’s to the administrators who show up with clarity, resilience, and heart β€” your leadership truly matters.
