Serious Injury Collision
Location of Incident: E. Airport Loop – Yuma, AZ
On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at approximately 7:55 AM, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a collision involving three vehicles on E. Airport Loop, between Avenue A and W. County 14th Street.
The initial investigation revealed a 1998 Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound on Airport Loop when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound. A 2020 Ford Explorer traveling behind the Corolla avoided the collision by steering onto the gravel shoulder, sustaining damage to the vehicle.
Rural Metro arrived on scene and transported the drivers of the Tacoma and Corolla to Onvida Health with critical injuries. Both drivers were later flown to a Phoenix area hospital for further medical treatment.
The driver and passengers of the Ford Explorer reported no injuries.
This case remains under investigation at this time. It is unknown if impairment is a factor in this collision.
