Last week, Onvida Health welcomed a group of motivated students for Mentor Me M.D. Winter Workshop, a three-day, hands-on workshop designed to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Led by Dr. Matthew Bishop and Dr. Veerauo Konkankit, who serve as Assistant Program Directors for Onvida Health’s Family Medicine Residency Program, the workshop is organized by Onvida Health's Volunteer Services and is proudly sponsored by the Southwest Health Education Collaborative.

Students had the opportunity to step into real clinical environments, connect with physicians and healthcare teams, and explore a wide range of medical and allied health careers.

Programs like Mentor Me M.D. go beyond education. They help build confidence, create meaningful connections and show students that a future in healthcare can start right here in our community.

Beginning Monday, January 12, our Transitional Care team will welcome patients at a new location just up the road. You can expect the same attentive, high-quality care from the providers and staff you know and trust.

Join us in welcoming Erik Sivertsen, PA, to the Onvida Health family!

Erik is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. He earned his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

His clinical interests include blood pressure management and wound care. He takes a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care, supporting patients before and after surgery.

We’re excited to welcome Gustavo Ortega, MD, to Onvida Health!

Dr. Ortega is a board-certified bariatric surgeon, specializing in anti-reflux surgery, minimally invasive hernia repair and a range of bariatric procedures, including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, SADI-S and duodenal switch.

He earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA, completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY and pursued a fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at Orlando Health in Orlando, FL. Dr. Ortega is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Say hello to baby Raul, the very first baby born at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center in 2026! He made his grand entrance at 3:11 a.m.

We’re honored to celebrate alongside his mother, Aurelia Villa, and welcome this little bundle of joy into the world. Every year, our incredible Labor & Delivery nurses put together a sweet baby basket for the first boy and girl born in the new year—a heartwarming tradition that shows how much they care for the families they serve.

Dr. Chicas serves as a pediatric hospitalist at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center, focusing on safety, care coordination and compassionate support for children and their families throughout their hospital stay.

She earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Bridgetown, Barbados and completed her pediatric residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Chicas is bilingual in English and Spanish.

As we get ready to welcome the New Year, we want to keep our community informed of our clinic hours.

📅 Wednesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)
• Foothills Walk-In Clinic will be open 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m
• Foothills Medical Plaza Primary Care will be open 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Most Onvida Health outpatient clinics will be open with modified hours, with many locations closing at 12:00 p.m.

📅 Thursday, January 1 (New Year’s Day)
• Most outpatient clinics, as well as administrative and support staff departments, will be closed to allow our teams time to celebrate the New Year with family and friends.
• Foothills Walk-In Clinic will be open 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

🚑 Emergency Departments (Main Campus & Foothills) will remain open 24/7, as always, to care for our community.

We encourage patients to check individual clinic hours before visiting, as schedules may vary.
