Dr. Paliwal is board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care and he is now serving at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ, completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Arizona, Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ and completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ.

Dr. Paliwal cares for patients with complex respiratory and critical illnesses, offering skilled support when they need it most.

This week, our Cardiovascular Services team visited the Yuma Fire Department to thank and support our local firefighters for the incredible work they do for our community.

Dr. H. Evren Kaynak, Onvida Health’s Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services, and Cynthia Brotherton, RN, Chest Pain Program Coordinator, spent time with their Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crews as part of their 12-lead Electrocardiogram (EKG) continuing education class.

They shared valuable information with the crews and talked about the importance of early pre-hospital Electrocardiogram alerts for patients experiencing a ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). These early alerts help speed up care, improve outcomes and save lives.

We are grateful for the collaboration and shared commitment to supporting our first responders and the community we serve. Thank you, Yuma Fire Department, for having us and for all you do for Yuma!

Onvida Health is proud to welcome Cassie Mueller, DNP, RN, as our new Chief Nursing Officer and Senior VP of Patient Care. Cassie will lead initiatives to elevate care delivery and outcomes by advocating continuous learning and nursing excellence.

"Cassie's heart for compassionate care and incredible clinical knowledge make her a bright addition to our Onvida Health team," says Jake Childs, President of Hospital Operations. "We're excited for the energy and fresh perspective she brings. Please join me in giving Cassie a warm, Yuma welcome to our organization and to our community."

With more than 15 years of experience across diverse care settings, Cassie began her career as an acute care nurse and most recently served as Chief Nursing Officer at Prisma Health, where she led quality, patient experience and throughput initiatives to optimize care.

Cassie earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina Upstate in Greenville, SC, a Master of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University in Millcreek, UT and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO.

When asked what she’s most looking forward to at Onvida Health, Cassie shared, "From the moment of arrival, I could feel the warmth of this team and the organization. I am incredibly excited to join such high-performing clinicians and support each of you as we continue to enhance clinical care and patient outcomes."

Her expertise in advancing practice through collaboration and team member well-being supports our commitment to putting patients first and building a healthier tomorrow.

We’re happy to welcome Jackeline Barajas, MD, to Onvida Health!

Dr. Barajas is now serving as an anesthesiologist at Onvida Health Yuma Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine in San Francisco, CA and completed her anesthesia residency at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York, NY. She is board certified in anesthesia.

She provides expert anesthesia care, guiding patients safely through their procedures while prioritizing comfort and well-being.

Last Friday, Onvida Health and the City of Yuma Government unveiled Yuma’s first augmented reality mural as part of the East Main Canal Beautification Project, a vibrant new piece of art designed to inspire wellness, creativity and community connection along the canal path.🎨✨

Created by Faux Real Design Group, the mural celebrates Yuma’s agricultural roots, military presence and Native American heritage. When scanned with a phone or tablet, the artwork comes alive with dynamic visuals, soundscapes and 3D effects, offering a unique interactive experience for anyone walking, running or biking along the path.

This milestone marks Phase II of the ongoing East Main Canal Beautification Project, a multi-phase initiative focused on transforming public spaces through art, nature and innovation. Phase I, launched in 2024, revitalized the city’s bike path along 24th Street and 16th Street, where community volunteers and APS planted 100 trees to bring new life to the area.

We’re proud to partner with the City of Yuma, the Clean and Beautiful Commission and NextGen to create spaces that inspire activity, pride and community. Together, we’re making Yuma more vibrant and connected!

We’re proud to welcome Omar Iqbal, MD to the Onvida Health family!

Dr. Iqbal is one of the recent graduates of our Family and Community Medicine Residency Program and he is staying in Yuma to continue caring for the community he trained in.

He completed his undergraduate degree at Loyola University Chicago and earned his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts and Nevis. Dr. Iqbal went on to complete his family medicine residency here at Onvida Health.

His clinical interests include preventive medicine, sports medicine, obesity medicine and hospitalist medicine.

Dr. Iqbal is now seeing patients at Onvida Health Foothills Medical Plaza (11351 S. Frontage Road, Yuma AZ 85367). To schedule an appointment, call 928-336-4000.

Onvida Health is proud to announce the construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art medical facility dedicated to serving Yuma’s Veteran community in partnership with the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). This project demonstrates our long-term commitment to the health, dignity and well-being of those who served our country.

Breaking ground in December 2025, the 30,000-square-foot clinic will be located at the Onvida Health Foothills Medical Plaza (11351 S. Frontage Road, Yuma, AZ), bringing Veterans convenient access to medical care close to home. The facility is expected to be completed in summer 2027.

The new clinic will significantly expand healthcare services for our Veterans, including:
• Physical and Occupational Therapy
• Lab and Imaging
• Optometry
• Audiology
• Women's Health
• Primary Care

"This partnership not only gives us the opportunity to care for those who protected our country, but it will expand services to care for the unique needs sometimes seen in our Veterans as a result of service," said Dr. Robert Trenschel, President & CEO at Onvida Health. "Building this new facility with our partners in the VA is not only necessary, but also an honor."

The project is part of an ongoing collaboration between Onvida Health and the VA. Last year, Onvida Health and the VA announced a partnership with Onvida Health’s Family and Community Medicine Residency Program, giving medical residents time in the clinic caring for our Veterans and providing additional care to those who have served.

Together, we’re building a healthier tomorrow for our veterans, right here in Yuma.

We’re excited to welcome Nouran Yasser Eshak, MD, to Onvida Health!

Dr. Eshak is a rheumatologist dedicated to helping patients manage complex autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Her areas of expertise include necrotizing vasculitis, vasculitis, acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis and scleritis.

She earned her medical degree from Alexandria University in Egypt, completed her residency and geriatric medicine fellowship at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX and her rheumatology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Eshak is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.

Dr. Eshak is now accepting new patients at Onvida Health Specialty Care.
