It is with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors announce the passing of Mr. Major Coleman, a cornerstone of the Southeast Community Health Systems Board of Directors since 2009. Mr. Coleman was more than a board member; he was a visionary leader, a dedicated public servant, and a true champion for the people of Louisiana.
Mr. Coleman’s life was defined by a rare blend of technical brilliance and a servant’s heart. A Southern University alumnus and former airplane design engineer, he brought a disciplined and thoughtful perspective to everything he touched. His legacy of service spanned decades, including:
* **Public Leadership:** Serving twelve years as a Police Juror in St. Helena Parish and as Vice President for the Police Juror, where he worked tirelessly for the safety and well-being of his neighbors.
* **Statewide Impact:** His expertise was recognized at the highest levels, leading to his appointment by the Governor to the Louisiana Commerce and Industry Board.
* **Community Advocacy:** As a co-founder of S.A.F.E. (St. Helena Actions for Equality), he was instrumental in supporting the 5th Ward Recreation District, ensuring that local youth had spaces to grow and play.
Beyond the boardroom, many knew him as a man of family and a passionate volunteer. Whether he was supporting St. Helena College and Career Academy or acting as the beloved "get back coach" on the football sidelines, he was always there to guide, protect, and uplift those around him.
We are profoundly grateful for the years of wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication he gifted to Southeast Community Health Systems. His influence has shaped our organization and our community for the better, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Coleman family and all who were touched by his remarkable life. Rest in peace, Mr. Coleman.
Thank you for everything.
