Raymond Fredrick “Fred” Gillard, 83, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, community, and service. Born on September 5, 1941, Fred was the cherished son of Raymond Eugene Gillard and Lela Marie (Holbert) Gillard. In addition to his parents, Fred is also preceded in death by his siblings, Harvey “Mike” Gillard, James “Jim” Edward Gillard, Janetta Gillard, and Barbara Gillard, as well as one granddaughter, Gabrielle Marie Gillard.

Fred was a proud veteran who honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, embodying values of courage and dedication throughout his life. After his service, he devoted 35 years of hard work at the Burnham Foundry, ultimately retiring at the age of 59, a milestone that allowed him to dive into the passions that brought him joy.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Harriet Josephine (Cooper) Gillard, alongside their three children: Carla (Kevin) Massie of Napa, CA; Bruce Gillard of Minneapolis, MN; and Brian (Donna) Gillard of Zanesville, OH. Fred was also a proud grandfather to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of many other friends and family to cherish his memory.

A man of many interests, Fred found joy in trivial pursuits with Jo while enjoying nightly trivia shows. His loyalty to the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cincinnati Reds was unmatched. Fred's gentle spirit was evident in his love for gardening, tinkering with cars, and engaging in spirited discussions with friends and family. As a member of the Masons, his commitment to community service shone brightly during his years volunteering with Jo at the Food Bank Network and the Gant House, where they made lasting impacts on the lives of many.

Fred's passion for life, storytelling, and socializing enriched the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered for his infectious laughter and the light he brought to the world.

A celebration of Fred's life and legacy will take place at a later date, inviting family and friends to reminisce and honor the impact he made in their lives. Arrangements are being handled by Burrell Funeral Services.

With heavy hearts and joyful spirits, we celebrate the life of Craig Sutton, who was born on February 28, 1959, and passed into eternal peace on July 20, 2025. Craig was a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished brother who touched the lives of all who knew him with his undeniable warmth and kindness.

Craig is survived by his beloved wife, Denise (Tabler) Sutton, who was his steadfast partner in life, and his precious daughter, Rebekah Sutton, who filled his heart with pride and joy. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Carole (Sutton) Jewitt. Craig was preceded in death by his father, Alan Sutton, and his mother, Loretta (Gibson) Powelson, along with his siblings, Karla (Sutton) Hood, Alan Sutton, and Randy Sutton.

A devoted Deacon of The Church Triumphant, Craig's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was passionate about serving his church community and found great joy in leading others in their journeys of faith. Known for his love of football, fishing, and cutting wood, Craig also cherished the moments spent with his friends and church family, cultivating relationships that were rich and meaningful. He was often known for his joking demeanor and contagious laugh which he loved to spread to other people.

Craig's life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by a service beginning at 12 PM at The Church Triumphant, located at 113 Madison Ave, Newark, Ohio, 43055. Pastor Robert Caw will lead the ceremony, which will honor Craig’s legacy.

In this time of remembrance, we encourage all who knew Craig to come together to share stories, lift one another in love, and celebrate a man whose spirit will continue to shine brightly in our memories. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.

Jean E. Knapp, 94 of Zanesville Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Jean was born on April 29, 1931, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Kieffer. In addition to her parents, Jean is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Knapp and her son, Kenny Knapp.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Pamela Kay Knapp; daughter in law, Mary Knapp; grandchildren, Angie (Beth) Knapp, Mary Pierce, Chasity (Shawn) Wagner, Scott (Erica) Knapp and Chad Knapp; great grandchildren, Marcus (Amanda) Knapp Johnson, Devin (Laney) McDonald, Alexis Knapp, Kayla Knapp, Titus Knapp, Brooke (Brody) Johnson, Marlee Pierce, Kameron Knapp and Kolton Knapp; 8 great great grandchildren; as well as several other friends and family.

Jean was a member of the Fair Oaks Baptist Church. She worked at Essex wire for several years. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Adams Lane Nursing home and Hospice care for their compassion and support they provided to Jean and their family.

Per Jeans wishes, cremation has been chosen. Graveside services will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.

Dorothy Ann Norris, 79, of Zanesville Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Dorothy was born on November 27, 1945, to Royal Marshall and Evelyn Williams. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Norris Sr.; daughter, Lena Norris and 3 angel babies.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Daniel (Missy) Norris Jr.; stepson, Daylan Harris; grandchildren, Danielle Norris, Saivon Norris and Zamara Norris; great grandchildren, Justice, J’lena, Xavier and Jazmina; brother, Richard Revard; lifelong best friend, Dorothy Peterson of Virginia; as well as several other friends and family.
Dorothy was a beautiful person, who enjoyed watching flowers bloom, watching a cooking show or taking a nice trip to Walmart and Kroger. Most of all she enjoyed her family and all the memories they made. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Nora Lorrain Walker, 88, of Zanesville Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2025, at her home. Nora was born on May 28,1937 to Milton and Mary Walker. In addition to her parents, Nora is also preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Brown, Thomas Walker, Dora May Holt, Milton Walker Jr., Sherman Walker, Margaret Willis, Marva Haliburton and Rose Mary Walker.

Nora leaves to cherish her memory, her siblings, Louise Kyle and Edna Daniels; adopted nephew, Mark Walker; great niece and nephew whom she raised, DaJean Castle and Deja Walker; special niece, Nora Ann Hess; close friend, Nedra Angel; caregivers and family aids, Shanee Mayle, Regina Gibson, Greg (Kim) Daniels and Achak Aniyunwiya; as well as several other friends and family.

Nora was a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church in Zanesville, where she was also an usher. She retired from Good Samaritan Hospital after 40 years of service. Nora always put everyone's needs before her own. In her younger years, she enjoyed cooking and baking. She always had 15-20 pies in her freezer. One of Nora’s specialties was her peanut butter fudge. The family would like to extend they're thanks to Genesis Home Health and Hospice.

You may call on the family on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 12 pm until 1 pm with funeral services starting at 1pm at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville, 414 LaSalle St. Zanesville Ohio 43701. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Zanesville. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.

Daniel J. Newlun, 23, of Dresden Ohio, passed away on July 12, 2025. Daniel was born on December 31, 2001, to Terry Newlun and Leslie Newlun. Daniel is preceded in death by his father, Terry Newlun; maternal grandfather, Larry Mullins; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Sue Newlun; two uncles, Steven Mullins and Bill Newlun.

Daniel leaves to cherish his memory, his loving mother, Leslie (Gregory) Schwab; brother, Thomas Newlun; grandmother, Linda Mullins; best friend, Ethan McCabe; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, many other family and friends.

Daniel had a true love and passion for mixed martial arts. He enjoyed watching and studying the science/mechanics of the sport, noticing every detail that was involved. Daniel enjoyed watching UFC in his free time. He also loved to write music and poetry. He also enjoyed comedy and was quite the comedian himself some would say. Daniel was studying to become a Psychology major with a high interest in the field, wanting to help as many people as he could. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Julia Elizabeth Chason, 36, of Zanesville Ohio, passed away on July 5, 2025. Julia was born on January 27, 1989, to Vickey and Lonnie Chason. Julia is preceded in death by her father, Lonnie Chason Jr.; grandparents, Isabelle and Homer Peyton; uncles, Eric Peyton, John Murphey and aunt, Lorrain Tolbert.

Julia leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Vickey Chason; sister, Charnette Clark of North Carolina, Virginia Hollins of Columbus Ohio, Lena Chason and Evelyn Chason both of Zanesville; brother, Lonnie A. Chason III; children, Jeremiah Chason, Isaiah Chason both of Zanesville and Leah Chason of Tallahassee Florida; as well as several other friends and family.

Julia was somebody special. She knew the Lord but still battled with demons most of her life. Now she has been set free. The true Julia had a good heart and loved her children very much. Anyone that knew her knew she had an old soul. She is now at rest. This is the true obituary written by her mother.

Lawrence N. Dickinson, 81, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Zanesville on February 3, 1944, Lawrence was the son of the late Eugene and Gertrude Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his siblings Helen Walton, Eugene Dickinson, Ayleen Ray and Billy Dickinson.

Lawrence leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife Sue Dickinson; his children Shane Dickinson and his wife Sara, Travis Dickinson, Larry Dickinson and his wife Jacki, and Ryan Singer and his fiancé, Jordan; and his cherished grandchildren James Dickinson, Ella Dickinson—who shared his birthday—Chandler Long, Tyson Dickinson, Jacoby Dickinson, and Jett Dickinson. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Dickinson and sisters-in-law Cynthia Martin, Jane Dickinson and Melody Dickinson. He is also remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews.

A natural storyteller, Lawrence had a gift for conversation and was never happier than when surrounded by family and friends, reminiscing and sharing tales of times gone by. He was the epitome of a lovable man—warm, generous, and full of heart. His greatest joy was spending time with his sons and grandchildren, creating memories that will live on for generations.

Lawrence served in the United States Air Force from 1965-1969, stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. He was employed for 44 years at Owens Brockway as a mold maker. In retirement, Lawrence and Sue fulfilled a longtime dream of living on the Muskingum River. There, he found peace and contentment in nature—fishing, boating, and sitting on the covered patio, taking in the view. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Lawrence spent many years traveling cross-country on two wheels. In later years, he continued his passion aboard his beloved Honda Goldwing, often taking long-distance rides with Sue, including visits to see their grandchildren out of state.

Lawrence’s life was marked by a deep love for family, a spirit of adventure, and an infectious joy for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Richard Louis Martin Jr., 55, of Zanesville Ohio, Passed away on Saturday July 5, 2025. Richard was born to Richard L. Martin Sr and Carolyn Sue Fowler. Rich is preceded in death by his father, Richard Sr.; mother, Carolyn Cromwell and stepfather, Bill Cromwell Sr.; daughter, Jasmine Martin.

Rich leaves to cherish his memory, his brother, Scott “Bubba” Martin; stepbrothers, Bill Cromwell Jr., Chad Cromwell and Tika Cromwell; children, Richard Martin III and Ryan Martin; mother of his children, Jody Miller; nephew, Scott Martin Jr.; niece, Ella Cornell; special friend, Vonetta Wittekind (Coles); as well as several other friends and family.

Rich loved to go camping and fishing in his free time. He was very skilled at many things, making him the ultimate jack of all trades. You could find him working on any type of motor when he was able. Rich loved his family deeply and will be missed by all that knew him.

Ron leaves to cherish his memory, his children, James (Yanapat Somjit) Hunter and Brenda Hunter; grandchildren, Joshua (Shayla) Morland and Sarah (Jared) Besser; 4 great grandchildren and a brother, Fred Hunter.

Ron was an avid bowler who was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Newark Ohio. He retired from Owens Corning after many years. Ron will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
