Denny R. Carrel 64 of Zanesville passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, after a long battle with Stage 5 renal kidney failure.

Denny, also known as “D.C.,” “The Wild Man,” and by many other nicknames, was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 302. He loved lottery tickets, playing bingo, listening to classic rock, and watching the Cincinnati Reds. Denny was the ultimate hell-raiser who never met a stranger and will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and the friendships he made everywhere he went.

Denny is survived by his daughter, Toray Carrel; mother, Mary E. Carrel and father, Ralph W. Carrel; his granddaughter, Laykin Starkey (Ryhder Smith); one brother, John Carrel; and three sisters, Melinda Lubas, Laura Carrel, and Amanda Carrel. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and numerous close friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Zanesville Kidney Care for the care and compassion shown to Denny throughout his illness.

Denny was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Rebecca Sims, and his nephew, William “Billy” Paul.

Vickie Sue Burtnett, 61, of Roseville, Ohio, passed away on May 22, 2026.

Vickie was born on October 17, 1964, and spent her life devoted to her family, friends, and caring for others. She worked for many years as a respiratory therapist, dedicating herself to helping those in need with compassion and kindness.

Vickie found joy in the simple things that made life special. She was an avid Pokémon GO enthusiast, loved spending time sunbathing, and adored her beloved dog, Zeus. Above all, she treasured her grandchildren and took every opportunity to spoil them with love and affection.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Bonifant; her beloved husband, Pete Burtnett, whom she married on December 20, 1986; her brother, Mikey; her stepmother, Marilyn Thomas; and her stepfather, Virgil Bonifant.

She is survived by her loving children, Justin Burtnett and Jessica (Zack) Boring; step daughter, Shonda (John) Carter; her cherished grandchildren, Nikki, Wyatt, Felicity, Mia, Johnathan (Jade), Trevor and Eliza; one great grandchild; her father, Roger Thomas; and her siblings, Martha (Chris) Bilyeu, Jerry (Ann) Bonifant, Dale Bonifant, Debra Burtnett, Virgil Bonifant, and Linda (Craig) Igel.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Repass meal will take place at The Eagles in Zanesville, the family ask that you bring a covered dish.

Vickie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her caring heart, playful spirit, and love for her family will forever be remembered.

Giovanni Norman, 28, of Zanesville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Giovanni was born on July 28, 1997, to Jackie Anthony and Terry Norman Jr. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends and for the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.

He is survived by his mother and father; his brother, Davonte; his sisters, Tatyana, Daijaha, and Kielee; his uncle, TD Norman; his aunts, Tera Norman and Christy Kirkbride; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Makai, Robert, Elizabeth, Aniya, Talia, Nova, Nielah and Asia; friend BJ Robert Parsons, along with many other loving family members and friends.

Giovanni was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Edwards Norman; his grandfather, Terry Norman Sr.; his aunts, Teresa and Buttons; and numerous other loved ones.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Sheila Sue Jackson, 63, passed away on May 19, 2026, at Genesis Hospital.

Sheila worked at Essex for many years and later spent several years working at Timber Run Gardens. She especially enjoyed gardening and found peace and happiness in caring for flowers and plants.

She is survived by her longtime partner, Craig Kundrith; her mother, Nancy Holland; her daughters, Jennifer Holland, Carly Jackson, and Janet Hughes; and her five beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew, Ariella, Raymond, and Torri.

She is also survived by her siblings, Sherry (Larry) Davis, Jody Blaine Holland, and Doug (Jody) Holland.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Holland, and her daughter, Devin Snack.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held at a later date.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Mason Scott Malaby-Martin, born 3/7/11, was called home by the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on 5/14/26. Mason was a very special young man who had a huge heart and was quite a goofball when he wanted to be. From his iconic catchphrase, “get you,” to his great big hugs, his loved ones will miss him until they see him again in Heaven.

Mason is survived by his mom, Gloria Martin; mother, Amy Roman; father figure, Uncle Terry Siders; grandmother, Amy Flowers; siblings, Collin (Abby) Miller, Hailey (Zack) Brobst, Gabriel Brobst, Dylan and Aubree Asche, Hayden Leib; aunts and uncles, Catrina (Terry) Siders, Samantha (Jason) Morse, Robert Risner II, Denise Pence and Terri and Jason Carmon; nephews, Oliver and Oakley Miller, Tazlyn Brobst; cousins, Kya Hazelbaker, Paelyne Dunkle, Lilia Morse, Reagan and Alyssa Siders, Ellie, Robert Wesley III, Serena Risner, and Cheyenne Bush. He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents, George and Arlene Curran; uncles, Glenn Martin, Dave Pence, and Wyatt Malaby.

The family requests that donations be made to Shriver Hospice in Zanesville in lieu of flowers. His hospice team — Janet, Kathy, and Penny — as well as Rev. Richard 'Rick' Brian Henthorne, 67, of Caldwell, Ohio went to be the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born September 4,1958 to the late Joe and Imogene (Farson) Henthorne. His wife, Cora M. (Haislet) Henthorne, whom he married March 2, 1977 preceded him in death on November 14, 2013.

Rick is survived by daughter, Angela (John) Ginn and son, Brian Henthorne; granddaughter, Clacie Ginn (Kaden) and great grandsons, Conner and Cole of Cambridge, Ohio; granddaughter, Katherine Henthorne (Alan) and great granddaughter, Cora of Cambridge; granddaughter, Angela Renee Henthorne (Joey) of Belle Valley and great grandson, Leon; two brothers, Joe (Elaine) Henthorne of Zanesville and Kevin Henthorne of Dexter City and two sisters, Kathy (Rodney) Haas of Dexter City and Lynn (Rob) Burrell of Zanesville and half-brother, Lee (Sarah) DeLong and their family of NC and nephews, Kyle Henthorne, Cheyenne Haas and Matthew Burrell; nieces, Crystal (Haas) Lanning, Heather (Haas) Honaker and Kelly (Burrell) Murvine as well as great nieces and a great nephew all of Ohio.

He was preceded by two brothers, Randolph (infant) and Kenneth Henthorne.

Rick worked throughout the years on drilling rigs and driving truck but most enjoyed farming particularly planting corn. He enjoyed nature and wildlife and the simpler things in life. He made great strides in later life and found a measure of peace in God and family. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Ullman St in Beverly, Ohio. He will be missed. He is in God’s care now.

Cremation has been chosen. There will be a visitation Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at McVay Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St, Caldwell, Ohio. Burial will follow at Keith Cemetery in Keithtown, Ohio. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES, of Zanesville is serving the family.

Berneda A Norris

Berneda (Bonita) Norris 88, transitioned from this life on Sunday May 17", 2026. She was born July 16, 1937, to the late Blake P. and Freda L. Norris. Bonita worked for the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department for 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and gardening. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, and a friend whose kindness touched many lives.

She especially cherished Christmastime, her favorite holiday of the year. Long before the season arrived, she would begin gathering gifts in January, carefully choosing each one with love and thoughtfulness. More than anything, she found joy in watching the smiles spread across the faces of her family as they opened their presents. For her it was about togetherness, laughter and memories made while sitting around surrounded by the family she loved.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory including her children, Sheila (Ron) Branson; two sons Jeff (Gina) Hardin and Mike Norris. Berneda is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sisters: Racy Minerd, Dianna Mayle, brothers: Jerry (Wanda) Norris, Frank (Annie) Norris, Ivan (Maryanne) Norris and Shannon (Barb) Norris and a host of family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton E Norris, daughter Flora Loretta Bridges, and a brother William Buddy Norris.

Walter James Rogers, 84, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away on May 3, 2026, at Adams Lane Nursing Facility. He was born on October 30, 1941, to the late William Harvey Rogers and Bertha Louise Rogers Cameron.

Walter, known by many as “Jimbo,” was well liked throughout the community and enjoyed spending time volunteering, fishing, and singing karaoke. He had many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly and appreciated his kind and friendly spirit. He will be missed by many and mourned by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three sons, Neil Rogers of Nevada, Walter Rogers of Columbus, and Lavelle Rogers of Lebanon, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Hailey, Solomon, Nevaeh, and Jolonda.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Burrell Funeral Services with a short prayer service beginning at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Joy K. Riddle, 82, of Zanesville, passed away May 11, 2026. Born Nov 12, 1943, Joy was a vibrant soul who loved to dance, read, and travel to the beach. She retired from the Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce after nearly 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Riddle; parents, Juanita (Layman) and Joseph Kelly; brother, Jeff Kelly; several step-children, dear friends Fran Carter and Mary Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Craig) Stanfield; son, Neal Wellspring; brothers, Jerry (Misti) Kelly and James (Adrian) Kelly; daughter In-law Janelle Keffer; grandson Brandon Byers; and dear friends Lucy Tigner, Caro Kaido, Naomi Black Paeth and many others.

Larry Wayne Mayle, 82, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on April 30, 2026, at Parkview Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 1 in Beebee, Ohio, to Nathan and Mildred (Parsons) Mayle.

Larry worked for the United States Postal Service and retired after 27 years of dedicated service. He was known for his love of baseball and basketball, and he especially enjoyed watching and supporting his grandson, Dwight play. Larry found great joy in collecting toy trains and baseball cards. He also loved country music, playing the guitar, and spending time with his great-grandsons. He will be remembered for his love, support, and willingness to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diana Jean (Chandler) Mayle; his daughter, Amanda Lynn Mayle; his grandson, Dwight Conway-Wayne Richards, Jr.; his great-grandsons, Dwight Conway-Wayne Richards, III and Camden Richards; and his sister, Connie (Terry) Martin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Mayle; his mother, Mildred (Parsons) Mayle; and his sister, Sharon Male.

Funeral services will be held on May 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Burrell Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Mark David Mattingly, born in Columbus, Ohio on March 31, 1959, passed away on April 29, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. He was primarily raised in Zanesville, Ohio. During his life, his hobbies included bike riding, working out, meeting new people, and watching sports. He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams and one of his greatest attributes was his ability to encourage his children to pursue their dreams. He was a lifelong fan of The Ohio State University Athletics. He regularly attended church at Thurston Methodist in Thurston, Ohio. His two primary passions in life were his family and his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. His life was characterized by his constant service to Jesus and a yearning to draw nearer to his savior.

Mark was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Patrick and Kay Mattingly. Mark’s surviving relatives include his wife, Christy Mattingly, his children, Darren, Caleb, Hannah, Sarah, Abigail, and Samuel. His mother, Gaye Meek, and her husband, Richard Meek. His grandchildren, Kirsten, Maisie, Eli, and Elizabeth. His daughters-in- law, Sara and Kenley. He was also survived by many extended family members and close friends whom he loved.
