Today, everyone at Frederick Living wishes you a meaningful Memorial Day.
To kick off the holiday weekend, residents attended a special Memorial Day event, recognizing and honoring the many men and women who have served our country. Reflecting on the poem, "In Flanders Fields," those who attended the event tied paper poppies to a memorial tree.

Today was an extremely beautiful day for hot air balloon contest winners Judy Fryer and Lily Douglass as they took to the sky in the Garden Spot Village hot air balloon.

Last fall, Judy and Lily were the Frederick Living winners of a Pro Aging Revolution essay contest which asked, "Why I should win a ride in a hot air balloon." Judy has always admired balloons since childhood and Lily wanted to do something to celebrate a milestone birthday. After many rescheduled dates due to weather and wind, they were able to join four contest winners from Garden Spot Village for the ride of a lifetime.

Taking off at 6 am, the crew floated over Shady Maple Smorgasbord, barley fields, and plowed farms before landing about 1 hour later. The local farm families came running to see the exciting landing and the young boys were eager to lend their muscle to stuffing the 400 pounds of balloon cloth back into the relatively small carrying bag.

Thanks to the crew of US Hot Air Balloon Team for a great morning!

The word must be out - they're even dropping from the sky to see what purposeful living in community is all about.

This morning around 7:30 am, this colorful balloon landed in our beautiful open space just off the walking path near the Oaktree Apartments. Thanks to resident Diana Channer for capturing the moment while she was out working in the garden.

As Nurses Week 2026 continues, our skilled nursing team in the Cedarwood Healthcare Center was celebrated with a gift of team T-shirts. Thank you everyone for your hard work and dedication to providing excellent care and service every day.

Celebrating in community is always fun at Frederick Living! This week, fifteen retired nurses gathered for breakfast to kick off Nurses Week. The nurses, who live in all levels of care, gather regularly to share stories about their careers and compare notes on the nursing field.

Thank you ladies for your service over the years and for your caring, compassionate hearts.

Join us for a special Musical Arts Series Concert featuring "Double Keyed., Sunday, May 17 at 3 pm in the Frederick Living Auditorium

Oboist Kirstin Myers and pianist Francis Drost delight audiences with their heartfelt interpretations of both classical and contemporary music. The pair is finalizing their upcoming Christmas album which was recorded at Abbey Roads studios in partnership with the London Symphony to be released in December 2026.

On this Administrative Professionals Day we are deeply grateful for our two Administrative Assistants who keep team members and residents moving forward.
Cynthia Martin greets residents in the Wellness Suite, manages their physician appointments and so much more. Bev Capp manages inventories, workorders and a gazillion other details that rival the number of bolts on the supply room shelf.

Both of these ladies have a long history of service at Frederick Living. Cyndi has served for 20 years and Bev for 22 years! Thank you both for everything you do for the community.

This week many organizations will be celebrating National Volunteer as they recognize the many individuals who support their mission. We too are extremely grateful for the nearly 150 residents who support the community and each other by their service at Frederick Living. With each act of service they demonstrate purposeful living in community and fulfill our mission to "Be Kind. Do Good. Show Love."

Here is what Frederick Living resident June Herb had to say about volunteering:

"Volunteering has a quiet but powerful way of shaping how I see myself as a resident here. When I give my time and energy to assist with an event or project, I begin to recognize that I have something meaningful to offer – whether its’s my skills, my compassion, or simply my presence. That feeling reinforces the belief that my life has purpose and value.

Volunteering also connects me to others. It reminds me that I am part of something larger than myself and has given me the opportunity to build new friendships with other residents.

Volunteering here has caused me to look at what I can do instead of thinking about what I can’t do. This has built confidence and dignity.

Had I not chosen to move to Frederick, I’d be missing out on all these wonderful opportunities, experiences and friendships. Thank you all for including me and training me to be a volunteer at Frederick. It has done more for me than I have done for you."

It's time to celebrate our Laundry Service team here at Frederick Living during National Laundry & Linen Week. This small but mighty team accomplishes so much of their work behind the scenes, yet provide a vital service to the community. They are essential to maintaining the health, hygiene and safety of the community by supporting dining and healthcare services.

Thank you for the thousands of towels and sheets you wash and fold and for providing laundry services to residents every day.
