Pro-Aging Revolution Day 28: Capture a photo of shared joy across ages.
What happens when a baton twirler who just performed at an Olympic awards ceremony and a former twirler get together? Joy multiplied!

Meet Gail Hitchins and Sandy Schoenly, two members of the Dining Services team working in the Cedarwood Healthcare Center kitchen. Last week, the Department of Health surveyed our healthcare center, including support services and staff. Thanks to these two ladies and the rest of the Cedarwood team, our facility received a "zero deficiency" report.
Congratulations, everyone!

Pro-Aging Revolution, Day 22: How does aging improve empathy or understanding?
As we age, we relate more deeply as poet A.R. Ammons beautifully writes:

In View of the Fact
by A.R. Ammons

The people of my time are passing away: my
wife is baking for a funeral, a 60-year-old who

died suddenly, when the phone rings, and it’s
Ruth we care so much about in intensive care:

it was once weddings that came so thick and
fast, and then, first babies, such a hullabaloo:

now, it’s this that and the other and somebody
else gone or on the brink: well, we never

thought we would live forever (although we did)
and now it looks like we won’t: some of us

are losing a leg to diabetes, some don’t know
what they went downstairs for, some know that

a hired watchful person is around, some like
to touch the cane tip into something steady,

so nice: we have already lost so many,
brushed the loss of ourselves ourselves: our

address books for so long a slow scramble now
are palimpsests, scribbles and scratches: our

index cards for Christmases, birthdays,
Halloweens drop clean away into sympathies:

at the same time we are getting used to so
many leaving, we are hanging on with a grip

to the ones left: we are not giving up on the
congestive heart failure or brain tumors, on

the nice old men left in empty houses or on
the widows who decide to travel a lot: we

think the sun may shine someday when we’ll
drink wine together and think of what used to

be: until we die we will remember every
single thing, recall every word, love every

loss: then we will, as we must, leave it to
others to love, love that can grow brighter

and deeper till the very end, gaining strength
and getting more precious all the way. . . .

Spark a Pro-Aging Revolution, Day 21: Post a photo of someone aging with humor and grace.

Meet Betty Talley, one of the most joyful people I know. She is always smiling, moves through the hallways faster than many, and is simply a beautiful, happy person. AND--she looks stunning when Derby Day comes around!

Congratulations to the entire Cedarwood Healthcare Center team for receiving a "zero deficiencies" report from the Department of Health this week! Director of Nursing Christa Smith said the surveyors were very complementary of the staff and the care services provided to the residents.
Executive Director Michael Hagarty said, "The results are a reflection of the entire team’s dedication and work on behalf of the Cedarwood residents. Congratulations everyone!"

Pro-aging Revolution, Day 14:
Share how your thinking about aging has changed.
"I used to think being 55+ was a long way off and it was, well...kinda old and "getting up there." But now, it seems rather young to me.
There are so many life-giving things to enjoy and celebrate, especially at Frederick Living:
* the joy of gardening
* a great place to exercise and keep fit
* participating with friends in outdoor sports and the 2025 Summer Olympics
* playing music with friends and entertaining your fellow residents
* Investing in new learning opportunities
* Time to serve others beyond the family circle
For me, "Aging" now means: enjoying the fruit of the first several decades, the lessons learned, and the wisdom curated, so that we can live more fully and purposefully in the (hopefully) many more decades to come.

Spark a Pro-Aging Revolution Day 13:
What's the best part of getting older?
According to Skip & Carol Grudzinski, the best part of getting older is being able to do life together. They are grateful to live in close proximity to their children and be able to watch their grandkids grow up. Sounds pretty great!

Pro-aging Revolution Day 12: Take a photo with someone older - spotlight them!

Here you have it - me and Rev. Richard O'Hara, Frederick Living's Chaplain. "Pastor," as many call him, serves both residents and team members, offering counsel and a listening ear, while also telling some pretty entertaining stories. He is responsible for organizing the Sunday church services as well as teaching the mid-week Bible Study.
His dulcet tones can be heard during monthly hymn sings and while performing as a member of the Souderton Alumni Men's Chorus, which will be performing September 8th at 7:00 pm in the Frederick Living Auditorium.

For a very informative and entertaining speed journey through the New Testament, save the date for "All the New Testament in One Hour," on Nov. 13th. Along with cartoons, humor and bad Dad jokes, Chaplain O'Hara will review every book of the New Testament, helping you to learn the theme, purpose and basic content of each one. Get details at https://frederickliving.org/event/all-the-new-testament-in-one-hour/.
We're thrilled that when Pastor O'Hara formally retired from his previous role, he joined us here at Frederick Living to serve the community so well.

Pro-Aging Revolution - Day 8: Share about an older entrepreneur, leader or creator.

Among Frederick Living's many micro-communities is the Busy Hands, Warm Hearts group. These lovely ladies gather weekly to knit and crochet, but not just for their own purposes...there's a bit of entrepreneurial spirit among them.
For several years, the group has been donating their hand-crafted items to local charities such as Birthright and the Salvation Army. But in recent years, they have also been supplying N.B. Nook's, the on-campus gift shop, and selling items at craft sales throughout the year. Each year, they raise hundreds of dollars for the Benevolent Care fund. Enjoying each other's company + pursuing a favorite pastime + serving the surrounding community = living with purpose in community.
