Sometimes small adjustments can make a big impact.👂🏽
When ears sit more prominently, they can unintentionally draw attention away from other facial features.
With otoplasty, commonly referred to as “ear pinning”, the goal is to restore balance so the patient’s absolutely contagious smile, bright eyes, and personality are what people notice first. ✨
In this sweet young patient, I corrected prominence not simply by “pinning” the ears back, but by carefully recreating the natural antihelical fold, a cartilage contour that, when underdeveloped or flattened, contributes significantly to ear projection. This can be seen best on side view of the ear which no longer curves forward. Rebuilding this fold allows the ear to sit closer to the head in a way that looks natural and harmonious.
I take what I often call a “belt-and-suspenders” approach with otoplasty, involving combining cartilage reshaping, subtle cartilage removal, and strong suturing techniques to optimize stability, minimize recurrence risk, and support a beautiful long-term outcome.
It has been such a joy caring for this bright, energetic young patient. 💥 He brings a level of energy that keeps our entire team smiling and his personality absolutely fills the entire office! 😎 Thanks to him and his wonderful family for the opportunity to share these photos. 🙏🏼
Otoplasty can be performed at all ages above ~5 resulting in a more balanced aesthetic and a confidence shift that can make a meaningful difference at any age.
