Taiwan's strongest earthquake in 25 years struck, causing widespread damage and leaving at least nine dead and over 900 injured. Rescue efforts are underway to free dozens trapped in highway tunnels in Hualien County.
The powerful 7.4 magnitude tremor hit the island's east coast, followed by aftershocks felt across Taiwan. Collapsed buildings, power outages, and landslides have been reported, with extensive damage in Hualien County. Military personnel are aiding in disaster relief efforts, and schools and workplaces have suspended operations.
Tsunami warnings were issued but later lifted. Taiwan, prone to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, experiences its strongest quake since 1999.
