Many women have never been told what is actually in the menstrual products they use every month.

A recent 2026 peer-reviewed study examined sanitary pads and pantyliners sold in retail stores and detected endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in a number of the products tested. These types of chemicals are commonly associated with plastics, adhesives, fragrances, and certain manufacturing processes.

Researchers noted that the concern is not a single use, but repeated exposure over many years. Menstrual products are used for hours at a time, month after month, often for decades. Yet in many countries, manufacturers are not required to fully disclose all ingredients used in these products.

This growing body of research is encouraging a broader global conversation around product safety, ingredient transparency, and the importance of safer menstrual care options.

Creating safe spaces for girls to learn about their bodies is so important 💜

I recently had the opportunity to engage with the Form 1 girls at North Union Secondary School at their Girls’ Empowerment Day where we explored personal hygiene with a special focus on menstrual health and hygiene.

We discussed the menstrual cycle, proper hygiene practices, and common challenges girls face, while encouraging open conversations in a safe and supportive environment. The girls were engaged, curious, and eager to learn …which made the session truly impactful.

Moments like these remind me why it’s so important to continue normalizing conversations around menstrual health and empowering young girls with knowledge and confidence. 💫
