A recent Kids Count report shows what so many families already feel every day: the USVI is facing a dramatic drop in child population, high poverty rates, and one of the highest percentages of single-mother households in the nation. These pressures make it harder for mothers to stay in the territory and raise their children with the support they deserve.

At Play OnWords Therapeutic Services, we are committed to being part of the solution.
We proudly accept MAP — one of the few places that still does — because access to therapy shouldn’t depend on income or insurance barriers. Families deserve real options here, not off-island.

How we’re showing up for local families:
• Flexible scheduling for working and single mothers
• Culturally rooted, parent-supported therapy approaches
• Partnerships with local schools, daycares, and community programs
• A commitment to keeping high-quality therapy accessible right here in the USVI

It’s never too early to build communication skills — and books make it fun! 💬📚
We’re loving My First Learn-to-Talk Book by Stephanie Cohen, M.A., CCC-SLP, a speech-language pathologist who designed this book to help little ones move from sounds to words through play and repetition.

From an SLP’s perspective, it encourages imitation, sound awareness, and early word use.
From an OT’s perspective, it supports page-turning, pointing, and visual attention — all skills that strengthen coordination and engagement.

💙 Mothers Supporting Autism: Awareness & Wellness Experience 💙

We’re honored to take part in this free, community wellness event designed especially for mothers of children with disabilities, with a focus on autism awareness, education, and caregiver support.

Our founder, Adrienne Dooley, MS CCC-SLP, will lead a session titled “Advocacy and Access: Navigating Resources,”
a practical and encouraging talk to help parents understand where to begin after a diagnosis — and how to access the right educational and therapeutic supports for their child here in the Virgin Islands.

- Panel Discussion: “Raising Children, Supporting Mothers: A 360° Panel on Wellness, Education & Advocacy”
- Breakout sessions on stress management, advocacy, and navigating systems of support

Recent news about changes to the federal Office of Special Education has raised understandable concerns for families across the Virgin Islands. 💙

Here at Play OnWords, we want to reassure our community that local services remain strong. Our commitment to children hasn’t changed. Every child deserves access to quality therapy and support, no matter what happens at the federal level.
