VIUCEDD acknowledges the Legislature’s decision to temporarily pause Bill No. 36-0190, which would mandate American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation at all Government of the Virgin Islands broadcasts and official functions.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Senator Angel L. Bolques, Jr. for championing this important legislation and for his continued commitment to accessibility and inclusion across the Territory. We also thank Senator Avery Lewis and members of the Committee for engaging in thoughtful dialogue as they consider implementation needs, definitions, and pathways for ensuring equitable access.

VIUCEDD remains committed to supporting efforts that advance communication access for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, and we stand ready to collaborate with lawmakers, agencies, and community stakeholders as the measure moves forward.
