HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS (HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS) What is HPV?
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a virus that causes human papillomavirus. HPV infection is a common infection worldwide. Up to 11-12% of the world's population (equivalent to 700-800 million people) is currently infected with HPV in both men and women. In Vietnam, the HPV infection rate is about 8-11% depending on the region. At least 50% of women have been infected with HPV at least once in their lifetime. Some types can cause health problems like ge***al warts and cancer. But there are vaccines that can prevent these health problems.
How is HPV spread?
HPV is very contagious. You can get HPV through the following routes of transmission: (Ranking from high to low risk)
1. Having unprotected s*x with an infected person (p***s, va**na, a**s)
2. Hand-and-mouth contact with ge***als infected with HPV
3. Sharing personal items with someone infected with HPV
4. Transmission from mother to child
Anyone who has s*x can get HPV, even if you only have one s*xual partner. You can also develop symptoms years after having s*x with an infected person. It is therefore difficult to know when you were first infected.
Types of HPV?
There are more than 170 different types of HPV, of which about 40 cause ge***al disease. Different types of virus will cause disease in different areas of the skin and mucous membranes.
Most types of HPV are benign, mainly causing warts on the skin
- Some strains of the virus can cause health problems such as ge***al warts (type 6,11, ...) and risk of cancer (type 16, 18, ...).
Treatment of HPV?
Currently, in addition to electric laser burning, there are drugs to treat warts. The drug will inhibit the hpv virus and stimulate the destruction of papules, tumors, warts, and enhance systemic and local immunity to kill the virus.
Note: it is necessary to follow up after treatment to detect recurrent lesions.
