⚠️ AIRWAY FOREIGN BODY IN INFANTS – DON’T LET CARELESSNESS COST A LIFE

A 13-month-old boy in Bạc Liêu was rushed to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City in critical respiratory distress after swallowing a small object while playing.

He couldn’t cry.
He couldn’t make a sound.
Only a terrifying silence — a classic warning sign of airway foreign body aspiration.

The object was lodged deep in the bronchus. Just a few minutes of delay could have led to respiratory arrest or permanent damage.
The child was urgently transferred, activating an emergency team for anesthesia, bronchoscopy, and respiratory resuscitation.

Inside the operating room, every second was tense.
The foreign body was in a very difficult position — a shift of just a few millimeters could have caused serious injury.

Fortunately, thanks to experience and close teamwork, the doctors successfully removed the object. The child breathed normally again and was safely monitored.

💬 But the most important point is this:
👉 This accident was completely preventable.

Especially toward the end of the year, many small items are commonly found around the house, such as:

Needles, pins, hair clips

Toothpicks

Melon seeds, button batteries

Small toys, loose toy parts

For young children, anything that fits in the mouth can become a life-threatening airway foreign body.

📌 ANVN ENT Clinic advises parents:

Always keep small or sharp objects out of children’s reach

Do not let children eat while playing

Never ignore coughing, choking, wheezing, or unusual breathing

👉 Children don’t understand danger.
👉 Adults must prevent it — before it’s too late.

One minute of parental caution can mean a lifetime of safety for your child.

🦠 WARNING: NIPAH VIRUS RE-EMERGES IN INDIA

🦠 1. Outbreak situation in India
The Nipah virus has recently re-emerged in India, leading to multiple people being quarantined and prompting countries in the region to raise alert levels.
Of particular concern is that the virus has spread to healthcare workers in hospitals, indicating the risk of transmission in medical settings if infection control is not strictly implemented.

🧬 2. Characteristics of the Nipah virus
Nipah is a zoonotic virus transmitted from animals to humans (such as fruit bats and pigs), and it can also spread directly from person to person.
The disease has a high fatality rate (depending on the strain, ranging from 40–75%).
Currently, there is no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment.
Symptoms usually appear after 4–14 days and include fever, cough, and shortness of breath; severe complications may involve encephalitis and coma.

🚨 3. Risk in Vietnam
Vietnam has not recorded any Nipah virus cases so far.
However, health experts emphasize the need for heightened vigilance, especially monitoring people returning from outbreak areas and strengthening surveillance of the virus in bat populations.

🛡️ 4. Prevention guidelines
People are advised to avoid contact with bats and potentially infected animals, practice good hygiene, and follow safe food habits (eat well-cooked food, drink boiled or safe water).
If Nipah infection is suspected (fever or symptoms with relevant travel/exposure history), individuals should visit a medical facility promptly for examination, testing, and isolation.

Last week, ANVN received a rather unusual case of a foreign body stuck in the throat: several stalks of lemongrass had been lodged in the patient’s throat for several days, causing severe discomfort.

Many people—and even the patient—often think that drinking a lot of water to “wash it down,” or using fingers to pull it out, will solve the problem. However, in reality, both methods are ineffective and can even lead to serious consequences.

SO WHY SHOULDN’T YOU REMOVE A THROAT FOREIGN BODY AT HOME?

⚠️ 1. It can push the foreign body deeper

Using fingers, chopsticks, spoons, toothpicks, etc. may push the object deeper into the throat or cause it to fall into the airway.

This can lead to choking, breathing difficulty, or even acute airway obstruction.

🩸 2. It can cause scratches and bleeding

The throat lining is very thin and rich in blood vessels.

Self-removal can easily cause abrasions or tears, leading to bleeding and significant pain.

🦠 3. Increased risk of infection

Hands and household tools are not sterile.

Bacteria can be introduced into wounds → sore throat, abscesses, or severe infections.

😣 4. Foreign-body sensation can be misleading

In many cases, the object has already passed, but a lingering scratch causes a “stuck” sensation.

Continued attempts to remove it only worsen throat injury.

🧠 5. The entire foreign body may not be visible

Foreign bodies can lodge deep in areas such as:

Tonsillar crypts

Base of the tongue

Larynx

These areas cannot be clearly seen with the naked eye.

🚑 6. Dangerous foreign bodies may be missed

Fish bones, chicken bones, bamboo toothpicks, etc. can pe*****te deeply into the mucosa.

If not removed properly, they may cause:

Throat abscess

Mediastinitis

Widespread infection, which is very dangerous

🧑‍⚕️ Please visit an ENT clinic for throat endoscopy and safe, prompt removal of foreign bodies.

🎉 To celebrate our grand opening, ANVN ENT Clinic is offering many attractive promotions—an ideal opportunity for you and your family to proactively check your ENT health.
Especially during this period, we schedule only one patient per time slot in the examination room to ensure faster service and minimize cross-infection.

🛑 WARNING: INFLUENZA A IS BECOMING VERY DANGEROUS – DON’T TAKE IT LIGHTLY!

Ms. Mến Kiều recently shared a truly frightening experience after contracting Influenza A:

“About 30 minutes after the fever started, I completely lost control of my body—my arms and legs cramped, my face twisted, and my eyes were so swollen I couldn’t open them. I was rushed to the emergency room and only felt better after an hour. The panic was terrifying.

After returning home, I couldn’t sleep all night. My body kept switching between hot and cold, so uncomfortable that I had to sit upright the entire time. This morning, I took two Efferalgan tablets and managed to doze off a little.

Now I’m coughing and having severe abdominal pain. In my family of 7, 5 people have already been infected…”

This year, Influenza A is spreading aggressively, and many patients describe symptoms as more severe than COVID-19.

👉 Do not be complacent with any symptoms such as: sudden high fever, body aches, cough, runny nose, extreme fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, swollen eyes, etc.

🗣️ When flu-like symptoms appear—especially during a rapidly spreading outbreak—early testing is strongly recommended to ensure proper treatment and to prevent complications affecting the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and digestive system.

🎁 Grand Opening Promotion:
ANVN ENT Clinic – 20% OFF Influenza A testing fees

Especially during this period, we only schedule one patient per time slot in the examination room to ensure fast service and minimize cross-infection.

HEALTH ALERT FOR YOUR EARS!

Ear Fungal Infection can cause TINNITUS, EAR BLOCKAGE, and HEARING LOSS!

👂 Ear fungal infection is a condition caused by fungi infecting the external ear canal. This is a common ENT disease in tropical, hot, and humid climates like Vietnam.

🗣️ People who frequently have their earwax removed at places that are NOT MEDICAL FACILITIES are at high risk of this condition because unsterile tools can spread fungi from infected people to healthy ones when the same tools are used.

👇 5 SIGNS TO RECOGNIZE EAR FUNGAL INFECTION 👂

Itching in the ear is the most common symptom → the itching gradually increases, making people constantly pick or scratch their ears.

Tinnitus, hearing a constant “whooshing” or “buzzing” sound. Hearing ability decreases, especially when both ears are affected (because the ear canal is blocked by fungal plaques, discharge, or debris).

There may be mild to moderate pain, a feeling of “obstruction,” “sharp discomfort,” or fullness and pressure inside the ear.

Redness of the skin in the external ear canal.

There may also be ear discharge flowing out, which can be white, yellow, or dirty brown.

🧑‍⚕️ WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE A DOCTOR?
• Ear itching lasting more than 2–3 days
• Ear pain, discharge, or hearing loss
• You have used ear drops but symptoms do not improve

❗️ NOTICE 🫸
Do not attempt to pick your ears or remove “fungal patches” yourself, as this may cause injury and spread the infection.

🎉 On the occasion of our grand opening, ANVN ENT Clinic is OFFERING 20% OFF fungal ear screening and standard medical ear cleaning to help you and your family proactively check your ear health.

Especially during this period, we only schedule one patient per time slot in the examination room to ensure fast service and minimize cross-infection.

💬 Do you or your loved ones have any of the symptoms above?
👉 Comment “EAR FUNGUS” if you would like more advice.
👉 Tag your friend or family member who is “constantly picking their ears” so they can learn more!

🚨 RAPID INCREASE OF INFLUENZA A IN HANOI – DO YOU KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE IT EARLY?

The “unstable” weather and constantly changing temperatures have led to a marked increase in cases of Influenza A in Hanoi. Many people mistake it for a common cold and delay medical visits, resulting in prolonged fatigue and a higher risk of complications.

👉 Early warning signs of Influenza A – you should get tested if you have:

• 🤒 Sudden high fever ≥ 38.5°C, chills, and body aches

• 😵 Headache and muscle soreness, especially in the back, shoulders, and thighs

• 😷 Dry cough or productive cough, sore throat, hoarseness

• 🥴 Extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, difficulty concentrating, poor sleep

• 🫁 Shortness of breath, chest tightness, breathlessness even with light activity

• 👨‍👩‍👧 A family member currently infected with Influenza A, or several people in the household developing fever and cough around the same time

✅ When should you get tested for Influenza A?

• When you have 2–3 of the symptoms above, especially high fever + body aches

• If you have chronic diseases, are pregnant, or are over 60 years old

• If a child has high fever, becomes fussy, refuses to eat, is unusually sleepy, or coughs a lot

🎉 On the occasion of our grand opening, ANVN ENT Clinic offers a 20% discount on Influenza A testing fees, making it easier for you and your family to proactively check your respiratory health. Especially during this period, we schedule only 1 patient per time slot in the testing room to minimize the risk of cross-infection.

💬 Have you or your loved ones been coughing/feverish/body-aching these past few days?

👉 Comment “INFLUENZA A” if you would like further consultation.

👉 Tag someone who “always gets sick when the weather changes” so they can seek early medical care ❤️

⚠️ Ear cleaning is not as simple as you think.
(Series: EAR–NOSE–THROAT HYGIENE – Part 1)

Having earwax removed at an unhygienic place can lead to ear infections, itching, or fungal problems — all from just a few wrong moves.

Here are the most common risks when the facility is not up to standard:

🔍 Non-sterile instruments
• Sharing tools between clients
• Improper sterilization process
• Bacteria and fungi remaining in the ear canal

🎯 Cleaning too deep or using excessive force
• Scratches in the ear canal
• Ringing in the ears or pushing wax deeper inside
• Pain, burning sensation, or even mild bleeding

🛠️ Inappropriate tools
• Hard, sharp metal forceps
• Improvised or weak lighting
• Easy damage to the ear canal lining

👂 No examination before and after the procedure
• Ear already inflamed but still trying to remove wax
• Fungal infection or discharge not detected
• Wet or impacted earwax not handled properly

👉 Just one wrong technique can make the condition much worse.

The ears are vital for your hearing — always let an ENT doctor examine and clean them properly!
