SUCTION PHLEGM AT HOME FOR YOUR BABY

Young children often have respiratory problems due to narrowed phlegm, causing wheezing and difficulty breathing. Therefore, suctioning your baby's nose to remove mucus is extremely necessary
Suction phlegm for baby is a physical method performed by a technician by hand or with a tool, which effectively improves the child's respiratory condition, helps the lungs expand better, enhances breathing, and eliminates mucus.
Applying nasal irrigation to remove phlegm with respiratory physiotherapy is the best method today

When should the above method be applied?

In young children, the width of the airways is very narrow, so even a little mucus can cause wheezing and difficulty breathing. When your baby breathes, you will hear sounds such as: hissing, whistling or snoring.
Because the baby is still young, he doesn't know how to cough up phlegm. At this time, suctioning phlegm to clear the airways is extremely necessary to help the baby breathe easier

At what age can a baby's nose be washed to remove phlegm?
In fact, when a baby is born, there is a lot of stagnant mucus, making it difficult for the baby to breathe, sleep, or cry. In these cases, we need to intervene earlier so that children sleep well, sleep deeply and breathe easier

Things to note when washing your baby's nose to remove phlegm :
Let your baby fast before performing this method , Your baby will cry a lot because of discomfort when the nurse drops saline into his nose. The nurse's operation to remove sputum does not harm the baby nor does it hurt the baby
The crying reflex makes it easier to expel phlegm. The louder the child cries, the more and faster the viscous phlegm is expelled.

Contraindicated when rinsing the baby's nose to remove phlegm :
Chest injury.
Children with cardiovascular disease.
Effusion, pneumothorax.
Lung cancer, airway malformations.
Immediately after the child eats full food.

Nasal irrigation to remove phlegm for babies needs to be performed by a qualified nurse . Parents should not arbitrarily wash their baby's nose to remove phlegm at home because without expertise, it will endanger the baby during the procedure.

Chest congestion in newborns ?

Chest congestion is often a sign of infection or foreign body pe*******on.

When does chest congestion in children occur?

Chest congestion in children occurs when there is an excessive buildup of mucus in the lungs, bronchi, and trachea.
Mucus serves as the body's first line of defense, helping to trap pathogens and other foreign objects in the respiratory system.
If a pathogen or foreign object is detected, the respiratory system will secrete more mucus.
However, this excess mucus can block the airways and lead to chest congestion in infants.

What are the symptoms of baby chest congestion?

Baby has a cough :
A chronic wet cough is a sign of mucus buildup in the lungs. The baby may make a cracking sound when coughing, indicating that there is mucus draining from the chest with each cough.

Baby has a stuffy nose :
Nasal congestion is a common symptom of chest congestion. The baby may not be able to breathe through the nose and must breathe through the mouth.

Wheezing : Your baby may make a wheezing sound or have difficulty breathing due to a clogged airway.

Baby is upset and crying:
Chest congestion can make your baby uncomfortable and cry due to difficulty breathing.

Baby has fever :
If chest congestion is caused by an infection, the baby may have a fever.

Other symptoms : Other symptoms may include difficulty breathing, breathing faster than normal, fatigue, lethargy or poor appetite.

What causes chest congestion in children?
Infection : Certain diseases can stimulate the body to produce too much mucus, causing chest congestion in infants.
For example, colds are a common infection that can cause chest congestion in infants.
In addition, respiratory syncytial virus can also cause chest congestion due to colds in children.

Allergy : Allergies can lead to excessive mucus secretion in the upper or lower respiratory system, causing chest congestion in infants.
For example, asthma and allergic rhinitis can cause too much mucus in the lungs.

Exposure to irritants :
Exposure to irritants such as smoke or dust can also lead to congestion in infants.

Genetic diseases :
Some genetic, limiting diseases such as cystic fibrosis, can produce more colloids than normal.
Babies with conditions such as cystic fibrosis may naturally produce more mucus leading to blockage.

Remedies for chest congestion in children :
Increase the frequency of breastfeeding : To help soften the mucus in your baby's chest, you should increase the frequency of breastfeeding.Babies with chest congestion often breastfeed less.
When breastfeeding, be careful to avoid your baby swallowing air as this can worsen chest congestion, especially in newborns.

Let your baby drink more water : Give children 6 months and older a sip of water.Water, like other liquids, can help soften mucus in mucous membranes. You can also feed your baby pureed foods to help them learn to eat.

Raise your baby's head high when lying down : Let your baby lie on his back with his head slightly raised in your lap.
This will help the mucus flow down and stay in the chest, making it easier for your baby to breathe and sleep. If your baby is over 18 months old, you can use a pillow to lift his head.Avoid using pillows for children under 18 months old.

Pat your baby's back : Place your baby on your lap, facing backwards . Support your baby's body with one hand and use the other to gently pat the back between the shoulders . Continue patting for a few seconds to soften the mucus.

Measures to prevent obstruction in newborns : To prevent chest congestion in infants, anything that causes a buildup of mucus in the chest should be avoided.
Keep clean : Keep your baby's surroundings clean and maintain hygiene when handling your baby's belongings . Older infants and toddlers should wash their hands after playing outdoors . If someone in the family has flu or cold symptoms, they must avoid contact with the baby to prevent the spread of germs.
Be wary of allergies and genetic diseases : If you know you have allergies, stay away from allergens . Children with genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis need routine care to prevent blockages.
Follow the vaccination schedule : Vaccination helps prevent outbreaks of many obstructive diseases . Keep your injections up to date.
Protect your baby from stimulants : Smoke from cars and ci******es has the potential to irritate the upper respiratory system.
Avoid taking your child to places where he or she may be exposed to air pollution.Don't let anyone smoke in the house because even small amounts can irritate your baby's lungs.

24/09/2023

Respiratory physical therapy techniques include: Clearing the nasopharynx, rinsing the nasopharynx with physiological saline, blowing the nose to expel mucus from the oropharynx, stimulating to support coughing, and techniques to increase expiratory airflow (AFE) to relieve Clear mucus from the bronchi.

This method helps expel secretions from the respiratory tract, helps open the airways, and improves the child's respiratory function. This helps the lungs expand better and eliminate phlegm waste.
Rehabilitation doctors will coordinate with pediatricians to combine drug treatment and physical therapy to support respiratory diseases. Pediatricians create appropriate medication regimens to control respiratory infections. At the same time, conduct physical therapy to help children breathe well, sleep easily, eat well, and heal quickly.
Most children need physical therapy from about 3 months to 2 years old, when they are not yet able to cough and expectorate on their own. Children will receive respiratory physical therapy with a process lasting about 15-20 minutes including the following steps: the patient's nose and throat will be cleared with physiological saline, the nose will be blown to expel mucus from the nose area - on the pharynx to the outside, blocking the base of the tongue helps push phlegm from the pharynx out of the mouth. Finally, press the chest to expel the remaining viscous sputum near the airways such as the trachea and large bronchi.
Before performing this method, the technician will explain to the family that the process of performing vibrating expectoration can bring fear to the baby and family members. But after doing it, the stagnant mucus is pushed out, the child feels comfortable, and the parents are very cooperative in doing it next time.
After clearing the airway, the baby's cry is louder, the baby eats well and sleeps deeply. From there, children recover better and respond better to treatment medications.
Before receiving physical therapy, the baby is examined and assessed for mucus level, then the doctor prescribes the number of times it should be performed. Usually it is done 1-2 times a day for children, lasting 4-7 days. Children need to fast and drink milk for 30 minutes to 2 hours before shaking to loosen phlegm.

The course of respiratory physical therapy will depend on the treating doctor, the medication your child is using, and each child's physical condition. Some babies will clear up mucus quickly, some babies will respond to treatment more slowly.
Parents should not arbitrarily refer to instructional clips on social networks to do this for their children because there are many potential risks: Children will be damaged by nasal mucosa, choke on physiological saline, or may be injured by their parents. Pushing mucus out incorrectly.
