Erectile Dysfunction Causes: More Than an Aging Issue
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the ongoing inability to get or keep an er****on that is firm enough for s*x. More than 30 million American men struggle with it, yet many hesitate to seek help. ED is common—52 % of men ages 40-70 report some degree of difficulty—but it is never “just part of getting older.” It often signals problems elsewhere in the body, especially the heart and blood vessels.
ED usually results from a mix of physical and psychological factors that fall into four broad groups:
Vascular problems – atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, diabetes
Neurological disorders – multiple sclerosis, spinal-cord injury, Parkinson’s disease
Hormonal or medication issues – low testosterone, thyroid disease, certain antidepressants or blood-pressure drugs
Lifestyle & emotional factors – smoking, excess alcohol, obesity, stress, anxiety, relationship conflict
Because the pe**le arteries are tiny, they can show damage years before larger coronary arteries do. For roughly 70 % of men, ED appears before any cardiac symptoms, providing a valuable early-warning sign
