Vĩnh Xuân sparring is different from ordinary fighting.
The difference lies both in the technique and in the principles of thinking during the fight.
The fight takes place at a very short distance.
Defense and attack happen at the same time. Movements are compact and economical.
We learn to feel the partner’s intention through the contact of the hands (this is what we practice in sticky hands).
The goal is to break the opponent’s structure and take away their balance.
We practice many exercises that develop sensitivity, awareness, and help us stay in control for longer.
Аt first we become listeners, learning to feel the partner’s movement and energy.
Later, we become hunters, when we are able to control ourselves and anticipate the partner’s strategу.
Тhe size of the opponent is not what really matter here. What matters is strategy and the ability to feel.
