A recent research from the World Health Organization found that around 40% of cancer cases worldwide are preventable. These are linked to major risk factors such as to***co use, alcohol consumption, high body mass index, physical inactivity, air pollution, ultraviolet radiation, and several cancer-causing infections. The findings highlight that a significant portion of cancer cases globally can be reduced through stronger prevention efforts and healthier lifestyle choices.
In Vanuatu, this finding is important as cancer prevention continues to be a growing public health concern across both urban areas and outer islands. Many communities still face challenges in accessing early screening and specialized treatment services, making prevention a more practical and effective approach.
By prioritizing community health education, expanding early detection programs, and promoting healthier lifestyle choices, Vanuatu can take proactive steps in reducing cancer risks. Strengthening prevention at the local level is key to protecting lives and improving long-term public health outcomes.
