Sugar. Why is it so bad for us?
We've all heard to avoid sugar because it isn't good for us, but rarely do we really hear all the reasons WHY sugar is so bad for us.
This conversation could go on all day, but here are a few of the main reasons why sugar is best to be completely avoided.
1️⃣ It is horrible for the immune system: Sugar will temporarily paralyze the cells that go around and gobble things up, thus stunting your immune system's ability to respond.
2️⃣ Promotes inflammation: It raises your blood sugar faster and higher than any other food, and this causes your body to release insulin. The more insulin you have floating around, the more your immune system produces inflammatory molecules.
3️⃣ Cholesterol: With more and more insulin in the body, it goes to the liver and causes your liver to make cholesterol. It also goes to the kidneys and causes the kidneys to retain salt and water.
4️⃣ Weight gain: We all know sugar causes weight gain. It can cause you to put more fat in your fat cells around the middle and lead to metabolic syndrome.
5️⃣ Increases risk of serious health issues: Metabolic syndrome increases your risk for diabetes, heart disease, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
6️⃣ Causes yeast overgrowth: Yeast overgrowth in the gut causes you to crave more sugar. It also can cause issues such as gas, bloating, acne and brain fog.
On top of all of this, sugar is ADDICTIVE. It spikes your blood sugar, giving you a rush, followed by a crash. Also, people are often using sugar to self-soothe because it temporarily boost your serotonin. When it falls again, you will crave more sugar.
There is so much more that sugar does to the body that won't fit in a single post, but suffice it to say, it is truly best to avoid sugar as much as possible.
❓️What is the best way to naturally beat a sugar addiction?
Eat more protein.
🔸Start the day with a protein and fat rich breakfast, instead of sugar rich, so you start the day with stable blood sugar. 🍳
🔸Continue throughout the day with high protein, good, healthy fats and vegetables.
It may be hard at first, but your health will thank you in the long run!
