The price war between farmers and middlemen has been throughout history. Back in the day the number of middlemen kept the middlemen in check where price gouging was concerned. The challenges of logistics and market access made them a necessary part of the package in many cases.
Today there are not enough middlemen. The market is controlled by powerful monopolies that see farmers still being paid prices they were getting 30 years or more ago.
Logistics and market access have changed now. Some farmers are using the efficiencies of the internet to break these monopolies that have evolved. It will come back into balance. It will just take a bit of time and effort
