⚖️What does transitional justice in Kosovo look like?
Kosovo judges and prosecutors had a rare opportunity to examine this question last month with the launch of the Academy of Justice's first training on the topic.
📚The Transitional Justice Continuing Training Programme of 2026 launched with a two-day 'Training of Trainers'. It brought 16 judges and prosecutors from across Kosovo together to test out simulations and learn more about the theory of "transitional justice' - a framework of justice for societies emerging from periods of conflict or repression that is designed to protect victims, grow trust and prevent future violations.
👩⚖️Supreme Court Judge Milena Ðerić said while she had been to many trainings on the topic before, this was the first she had attended in Kosovo. "I gained different insights into the events that occurred between 1989 and 2000, which helped me to view that period through a broader, more objective, and clearer perspective."
Mitrovica Basic Prosecution Prosecutor Albana Parduzi highlighted the importance of coming together across communities and institutions to learn more.
🗣️"The discussions and exchange of experiences significantly contributed to strengthening our capacities for implementation in future work."
This activity is part of a broader project to promote a human rights-based approach to transitional justice, implemented by Integra and supported by UNMIK.
