We are pleased to reintroduce the PsyConnect: Southern Mindanao Psychology Practitioners Hub, a professional network created to connect and strengthen the community of mental health practitioners in Southern Mindanao.

This will serve collaborative space created for mental health practitioners in Southern Mindanao to connect, share resources, and support one another in advancing psychological services in the region.

Capacitating the Department of Tourism Region XI through the Foundations of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Train the Trainers on “Caring for the Carers” held in Mati City.

The session was led by Dr. Maria Isabel S. Lemen, PAP Board of Trustees member and representative of PAP Southern Mindanao, along with Dr. Rose Ceniza of Selah and Davao Oriental State University, and other volunteers, who emphasized the importance of compassionate response, mental health awareness, and sustainable psychosocial support among frontline tourism workers and responders.

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 | 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

The Psychological Association of the Philippines – Southern Mindanao Regional Chapter (PAP SMRC) conducted a Psychological First Aid (PFA) session for the dedicated workers of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) of Davao City.

Participants included those who bravely responded to the recent fire incidents in Barangays 21 and 23, as well as day care workers who continue to care for the city’s young learners. The PFA session aimed to provide a space for rest, reflection, and recovery after weeks of deployment to fire-stricken areas, alongside the challenges brought by the recent earthquakes in Mindanao.

The sessions were facilitated by psychologists, psychometricians, and guidance counselors, divided into morning and afternoon groups, with a volunteer debriefing held afterward to ensure the well-being of the team.

This initiative also opened doors for future partnerships with CSWDO to further strengthen mental health and psychosocial support for our city’s frontliners and community workers.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Gina Molon for the opportunity and warm welcome, and to Dr. Maria Isabel Lemen for graciously facilitating this meaningful activity. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our volunteers for their time, compassion, and steadfast dedication to caring for those who care for others. Your presence and kindness truly made a difference.

Last October 9, 2025 (Thursday), the Psychological Association of the Philippines – Southern Mindanao Regional Chapter (PAPSMRC) conducted an online refresher session for mental health professionals and social workers who signified their intent to volunteer in providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) for the victims of the recent fire incident in Brgy. Piapi Boulevard, Davao City.

Dr. Maria Isabel S. Lemen served as the resource speaker during this activity. Volunteers were guided on the dos and don’ts of conducting PFA, emphasizing ethical care, safety, and cultural sensitivity in crisis response.

In light of the recent earthquakes in Mindanao, volunteers are currently awaiting the final schedule of deployment as coordination with local agencies continues.

Through these initiatives, PAP Southern Mindanao remains steadfast in its commitment to deliver Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) to communities affected by disasters and crises, anchored on the principles of compassion, service, and professional care.
