SugoSure SugoSure - an innovative and complete digital health system to help you improve your diabetes control

SugoSure supports and guides you to achieve better self-management of your diabetes while at the same time assists your doctor with timely remote data for better clinical decision-making. SugoSure includes use of the Patient App, coaching by your nursing-registered health coach and remote monitoring by your doctor. Following an initial 2-week assessment, your health coach will develop a Lifestyle Plan to complement your doctor’s Clinical Plan. The system then gives your reminders, feedback and alerts which, together with advice and support from your health coach, help you stick to your plans and achieve your targets. SugoSure has so far shown highly promising results, with an average reduction in HbA1c of 0.8% after 3 months for patients starting with HbA1c >7.0%. There are definitely lessons to be learnt for ourselves as well as our collaborators - let's build on these and move towards a real transformation over time. Our diabetes patients deserve it!

This is the 3rd in my series of articles about transforming diabetes care. In my last article, I described the launch of SugoSure – a diabetes management system which I designed and developed, aiming to fundamentally transform diabetes care delivery.

For those who are interested in the public health issues around diabetes, we are sharing 3 articles from LinkedIn which summarise our views on how diabetes care can be improved and our experience trying to do this in Singapore through SugoSure.

It's honestly been tough to launch SugoSure in Singapore due to the structure of healthcare systems here. But we haven't given up trying to transform care for type 2 diabetes since the need is so great and the opportunity (using technology) is still very open.

This is the first of 3 articles.

I recently wrote an article describing healthcare as ugly – from the point of view of trying to re-engineer how it is delivered using technology. It’s ugly since it’s so complex.

Here's a meaningful story from a leading Obs & Gynae specialist about her personal quest against processed sugars.

To control diabetes well it may not be necessary to completely eliminate processed sugars but controlling intake carefully is definitely important - and also achievable with support from tools like SugoSure.

Here's Dr Chua's original post;

Many of my friends and patients have heard that I don’t take processed sugars. That started soon after 1987 when my maternal grandmother passed away. She passed from diabetic complications. She was really dear to me.

As I entered medical school that year, I was determined to take up arms against sugars and help people avoid all the bad consequences that result from excessive sugars. Personally, for decades now, I do not take desserts or sodas. That means zero cakes, ice-creams, desserts, sugared drinks. No log cakes, no pineapple tarts, no mooncakes. No sugar in my cooking.

As I remember my dearest grandmother today on her birthday (always celebrated on the 10th day of CNY), I thank her for having started me on that journey which has benefitted me throughout my life!

Thank you Ah Mah! Happy 118th!
