If the first day of January feels heavy, resistant and slow, there’s nothing wrong with you.

You are simply in tune with nature’s rhythms.

❄️

And it’s why many of our best intended resolutions flop within weeks of starting.

❄️

Winter is a time for rest and relaxation.
For restoration.

Animals hibernate.
Seeds are frozen under the earth.
The northern hemisphere is quiet and still.

❄️

This is a time for dreaming of what comes next but more importantly, for closing out the past year.

❄️

For honoring what you’ve accomplished, lost and become before stepping into the newness of Spring.

When is the last time that you looked at the night sky?

Or watched the sun cross from one horizon to another?

🌕
☀️

Something as simple as just looking “up” seems like a luxury in our “modern” lives.

☀️
🌙

But there’s medicine to be found in this!

Our ancestors knew it.

And this isn’t about living in a cave; it’s about pausing and connecting vs racing and consuming!

🌙
☀️

You can buy all the supplements, the gadgets and tools, but they won’t replace what we’ve lost.

And that’s our connection to nature; the natural flow of life, the rhythms that our bodies still remember. The need for stillness, for wonder, for contemplation and awe!

☀️
🌙

You’ll make a dozen resolutions for the “new year”. All outward manifestations and expenditures on already depleted energy reserves.

But can you sit in the discomfort of pausing and connecting?

Connecting to yourself, your breath, to others, to nature, to the sunrise and the night sky?

☀️
🌙

Because this is how your nervous system heals.
Not through doing more but by pausing & embracing moments that require nothing but your prescence.

☀️

There is healing and magic in these simple things.

Dose high and let your life be your medicine

The darkest of days are behind us!

Happy belated Solstice everyone !

☀️

The sunrise this morning was beautiful.
A solar reminder of what lies ahead; longer days and sunnier days!

☀️

But we are still in deep winter.
A time of rest and recovery.

A time to reintegrate what has transpired this last year for each of us individually.

☀️

And while the new year beckons with its tendencies towards promises and resolutions; this isn’t time for radical change.

Serotonin is low! As is dopamine.

This isn’t great for our mood or motivation!

☀️

But that does not mean that we need to remains passive or static!

Every sunrise and new day is a day that you can act with intention and make new decisions.

☀️

Now isn’t the time for radical outward change but rather the time for selecting which seeds you may want to plant in the spring when the conditions are favorable for growth.

Sometimes you need a gentle reminder!

I used to buy flowers weekly. They made me smile and I loved how they filled the room and made it feel more harmonious and how the colors would lift my mood.

A friend gifted me some flowers this week and I am so grateful.

I’m reminded of how easily this fell to the side when life got busier and how easily I can change that.

I’m reminded of how something so simple can be so uplifting.

So, if there’s something that’s fallen away in your life that used to make you smile and bring you joy, may you make the time to bring it back into your life.

I’m curious to hear what that may be for you. Comment 👇

As the end of the year approaches, we prepare for all the change and newness that next year brings.

The resolutions and the things that we will “do” or maybe let go of and no longer do.

Each of us has something that is preventing us from soaring.

🦅

What is that for you?

🦅

Is it too much scrolling & distraction?
Is it too spending much time worrying about what is next?
Or too much time replaying the past? Is it saying yes and overcommitting?
Is it putting your needs last?
Is it a habit that keeps you out of alignment?
Or a relationship that feels draining?

🦅

What needs to go next year to make space for something new?

🦅

Because the new can’t come in if your moments and minutes are all already accounted for!

🦅

It’s in that space, the one that is filled with noise for so many of us, that real change roots itself.

🦅

Not as a resolution for next year or someday, but as real and lasting change.

We woke up to an amazing snowfall this morning!

As I drove to the office, I was admiring the big beautiful snowflakes and also aware of the inconvenience of this drive.

❄️

And sometimes the most beautiful things are the most inconvenient!

❄️

If you’re on a wellness journey, you can relate.

❄️

The beautiful gifts and the gains come with a lot of inconvenience.

❄️

Better physical health, personal peace, mental wellness etc. come with a lot of inconveniences if we are to achieve them.

❄️

If you’re on this path, keep going .

It’s hard and it’s often time consuming.

It is inconvenient and equally beautiful at the same time!

Why wait until January 1st to start?

Whatever you want to work on, let go of or improve doesn’t have to begin the day the calendar changes.

The version of you that you are envisioning and desiring to move towards can be here today!

And it starts by making small changes.

Maybe it’s ….

Eating a balanced meal
Moving when it feels hard
Saying no instead of people pleasing
Getting to bed earlier
Tidying up the house
Putting your phone away earlier
Making time for rest
Pausing before reacting
Getting that gym / yoga membership

Don’t wait until the holidays are over and you’re exhausted.

Whatever you want to work on in 2026; now is your practice run.

A reflection on commitment as we enter a season that is filled with too many of them!

We commit to relationships; and pull out when they get hard.

We commit to jobs; and change them when something better beckons.

We commit to nutritional plans and exercise habits; until they get too hard or the next fad comes our way.

🦆

Today there is always something better, shinier, easier and newer to grab our attention.

There’s always a replacement for things in this disposable external world.

But there isn’t a replacement for your body, mind & spirit.

🦆

So, how can you commit to yourself during this busy time?

(Suggestions: breathe, meditate, chant, stop watching TV, walk barefoot, connect with nature, stretch, move, rest, make nourishing meals, watch the sun rise, breathe consciously, make tea, have a bath, go to sleep earlier)

Ask yourself:
What is non-negotiable to your wellbeing?

And then commit to it unapologetically.

🦆

Tend to your needs.
Say “no” with an open heart.

Otherwise you’ll be depleted and maybe even a tad resentful.

Pledge a commitment to your well-being during this season that demands so much.

Happy thanksgiving 🍁 to you and all of your beloveds!

I spent some time in nature and many moments in gratitude.

I’m thankful for so much, including my lovely patients.

Those that have chosen a different path to healthcare & self care- not from a place of rebellion but rather from a place of self responsibility!

A gratitude practice is a simple, cost effective, easy way to improve your health naturally.

Thankfulness and gratitude have loads of research on its health benefits.

Gratitude lowers cortisol & reduces stress.
Gratitude increases happiness by boosting dopamine and serotonin.
Gratitude boosts immune function.
Gratitude improves heart function and lowers blood pressure.
Gratitude improves sleep.

Gratitude isn’t just for one day.

It’s one of our innate tools for healing and achieving a better quality of life.

It’s available for free; anytime and anywhere.

Dose high!

Pause.
Breathe!

When life is moving quickly, it’s incredibly beneficial to find small moments to slow down and connect with the quiet wisdom of our hearts.

A small pause can help us shift frustration into patience, hurry into ease, and disconnection into compassion.

It can also help us listen more deeply to our own inner guidance and to one another.

There’s medicine in doing less!

Gone are the verdant greens and the warmth of summer. The long days and the eternal sunshine.

☀️

It’s time to welcome in the wetter, windier, shorter and darker days.

🍁

You aren’t meant to BE and behave in the same way now as you did mid July.

Our ancestors knew this.

☀️

Before our lives were filled with LEDs, blue screens and 24/7 illumination, these days were honored.

🍁

Every culture, every religion and every system of medicine before our current one (Ayurvedic, Chinese, naturopathic etc). prepared for these times. The changing of the seasons.

🍁

So slow down.
Go within.
Read.
Sleep more.
Drink tea.
Practice stillness.
Eat heartier foods (not junk!)
Gather in community.

And yes, get outside! Get light.

That’s non negotiable no matter the season.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Public service announcement!
Slow down! Breathe!

☀️

I’m a week back from a 2 week hiatus and the stress, anxiety, fear and worry that I am seeing in my beloved patients is so high.

☀️

There’s plenty of reasons for it.

☀️

And there’s plenty of ways that we can mitigate it.

☀️

First, stop.
Close your eyes.
Breathe deeply through your nose!

Even if just for a few moments per day.

☀️

Nostril breathing actives the parasympathetic nervous system , slows the heart and calms the mind.

Whereas mouth breathing, makes us more stressed!

☀️

Seem simple?
It is. And it’s a tool you can use anytime and anywhere.

☀️

Set a timer.
Do it hourly.

Do it while you drive (eyes open please!)

Do it on the toilet.

Do it between calls and emails.

☀️

Do it enough times that your body recognizes the signal and SOFTENS into STILLNESS!

☀️

That’s where the magic is.
That’s where the peace is.
That’s where you come home to you.

☀️

You aren’t going to change this world through worry.

☀️

You change it by tending to you!
