When something more personal is required or you want to deepen your practise with a qualified and seasoned local yoga teacher 😀

Yoga 1:1

I offer yoga 1:1 in your own home or at a pre-booked location. Sessions are based around on what you wish to learn. These are yoga classes and in the 60 minutes we will cover movement, breathing practise, relaxation and meditation. Classes can be booked 1 or 2 per week for a minimum of 4 weeks and a home practise is encouraged.

After 4 weeks it is then for you to decide if I am the teacher for you and if not, I can recommend a fellow yoga teacher for you to continue your yoga journey.

I am based City and South Shire but happy to travel, if I can. Travel costs and any venue costs will be included in the cost. Contact for more information or to arrange an initial 4 week booking.

Social Prescribing

In an attempt to help relieve pressure on the NHS, an increasing number of doctors are offering ‘social prescriptions’ rather than medication, in order to treat people throughout the UK.

Recognising that health is often determined by a complex range of social, economic and environmental factors, social prescribing is the process where GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals can refer people to a range of activities. These often include befriending, group learning, gardening, volunteering, arts activities, cookery, healthy eating advice and yoga.

Social prescribing seeks to address people’s needs in a holistic way, and the hope is that it will not only empower people to take greater control of their health, but will enable them to live happier, healthier lives. One review of studies on social prescribing showed that on average, it was associated with:

28% fall in visits to a GP
24% drop in attendance at emergency wards

Tackling the epidemic of lifestyle-related disease and the social determinants of health lie at the heart of social prescribing. One common prescription is for more exercise, and the other is for mental health – and yoga is increasingly being viewed as a viable social prescription that can address both physical and mental wellbeing.

Yoga4Health is a Scottish registered charity - SCO51785. We rely on external funding to run our classes and help promote both social prescribing and yoga into the community, for those who really need it. The Westminster University evaluation of the Yoga4Health programme concluded that…

“Patient reported outcome data demonstrated significant improvements from baseline to post-intervention on all outcome measures, which were sustained 3 months after the yoga4health programme. Service users showed statistically significant and clinically meaningful decreases in perceived stress, anxiety, and depression suggesting the mental health benefits of the course. Significant improvements were also found for patient activation (confidence in managing one’s
health), wellbeing and social connectedness, highlighting the programme’s positive psychological and social benefits.”
