Lung cancer is one of the cancers that don’t present with early warning signs like other organs.

The most common early warning sign, a cough, can be mistaken for other benign conditions, like the common flu or a chest infection, and cannot be ignored.
That is why ignoring a persistent cough can be dangerous. When true lung cancer symptoms become obvious, the cancer is often already at the latest stage.

Some exercise-related breathing problems may be linked to the upper airway. Conditions such as exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction can cause shortness of breath, throat tightness, noisy breathing, cough, or even voice changes during exertion. Because these symptoms can resemble asthma, proper assessment is important.

By the time symptoms become obvious, lung cancer is often already at a later stage.
This is why proactive lung screening — even before symptoms appear — is crucial for those at higher risk.

According to the American Cancer Society, early-stage lung cancer (Stage 1) detected through screening has a 5-year survival rate of around 60%–80%, compared to less than 20% when diagnosed at a late stage.

While not every case requires robotic surgery, many patients can benefit significantly from this approach, especially when precision and minimal disruption are critical.

Conditions Often Treated with Robotic Thoracic Surgery:
- Early-stage lung cancer requiring lobectomy or segmentectomy
- Mediastinal tumors or cysts
- Esophageal tumors and benign conditions
- Removal of lung nodules or biopsies
- Sympathectomy for severe hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Important Reminder:
Robotic surgery is not suitable for every patient. Be sure to chat with Dr Aneez Ahmed to understand if this is the suitable option for your condition.
