The Shire is an adult day service set in 12 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside, offering the opportunity to learn new skills, engage and interact with others. We are a day service provision for adults with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Issues of all abilities and Backgrounds. We are Based near Halstock just 15 minutes from Yeovil Town Centre. Our objective is to provide the opportunity for individuals to gain a variety of knowledge, Skills, Confidence, Social interaction, and a gratifying sense of achievement whilst gaining friendship and a feeling of inner self - worth. Activities range from Practical skills such as Animal Husbandry, Farm Maintenance, Gardening and Horticulture, Carpentry, Mechanics, Welding, Equine Therapy, Arts and Crafts, Sensory Activities, Forestry skills, and more all based in a beautiful rural part of Dorset.

🐍🕷️🐌The Shire treated everyone to Garwynn visiting with his amazing reptiles today!! It was such a great day and well done to you all for being super brave, especially those that conquered their fears!! Me personally prefer animals with fur but being you were all so brave I had to hold atleast something!🤣

❤️🥰Check out the gorgeous Stan!! Stan arrived at The Shire yesterday and has already enjoyed making lots of friends with everyone today! He is a young Irish Cob who arrived from Ireland 2 weeks ago and as always requires patience,Trust and kindness! I'm sure you all remember the story of Big Sid and Tucker who also live at The Shire with a similar background that arrived last year! Stan is already a huge part of The Shire family and you can watch his journey on TheShire12 Tiktok page❤️🥰🐴

☀️☀️What a gorgeous day to be outside today... you can't beat it especially at The Shire!!🥰☀️Lots of individuals over the last couple of weeks made clocks for Mothers Day...we hope you all loved your surprise present!! Please comment any pics of your clocks as unfortunately we didn't take pics of them all!! We have enjoyed trips off-site along with working on projects outside ready for the warmer months ahead! Even enjoyed Karaoke in the gardens today which was amazing to hear all those talented voices echo in the valley!! 🥰🚘🏎️What a Fab Shire day out for everyone visiting !! Everyone really enjoyed seeing and learning about various vehicles on display and having the chance to sit in some very expensive cars!! We were all privileged to have a guided tour and have the opportunity to ask questions and just have fun amongst friends! 🥰What a brilliant day it was for everyone who attended The Shire's animal Coffee morning today! Pictures are very limited due to how busy it was but please feel free to comment any pics you may have taken as we would love to see them! Can you imagine a world without animals?? Animals significantly boost our mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and loneliness, self-esteem and physical activity. They offer unconditional, non-judgmental companionship, provide daily routine and purpose, along with just being there when you need them the most! Their presence grounds us and this is seen daily at The Shire! To enter in this competition all you have to do is comment any pics you have of your pets at home or ones taken at The Shire! 🥰CUTE ALERT!!! This is the 4th Year that Wilf & Wilma (Wild Ducks) have returned to The Shire to hopefully hatch their Ducklings!!🦆🐥For the last 4 years every February they fly in and stay for 5 months! Yesterday was the day they returned home - it's always around this time but everyone is always dubious if they will return!!🥰 So Happy to see them both safe and well. They get fed every morning and evening at The Shire and usually have their Ducklings around April so watch this space for an update!!🥰❤️🦆🐥

🥰Check out these awesome pics of everyone in January and the past few days getting stuck in on group and individual projects and just enjoying time at The Shire amongst friends🥰!! Recently we have all been working hard renovating the converted animal Barns which has now created ample space for each animal new and old with a seating area for us all to enjoy!! We have enjoyed coffee mornings off-site, along with learning to use new tools, Baking, Arts & Crafts, Music sessions, Quizzes, Karaoke, Polaris Driving and not forgetting plenty of animal interactions! Remember The Shire has many upcoming events open to everyone so watch this space!😊
