On December 22, 2025, the Cervical Cancer Program Coordinator, Ms. Sariba Jalmaani, conducted a Cervical Cancer Awareness Advocacy at Barangay Kaumpurnah. The activity aimed to educate women and community members about cervical cancer, its risk factors, early signs and symptoms, and the importance of regular screening and early detection.

During the advocacy session, Ms. Jalmaani emphasized preventive measures, including healthy lifestyle practices and timely medical consultations. The participants actively engaged in the discussion, asked questions, and expressed appreciation for the valuable information shared. The activity successfully strengthened community awareness and encouraged women to take proactive steps toward protecting their health.

On December 22, 2025, the FHSIS Program Coordinator, Ms. Lherma Kaulun, successfully conducted the final Data Quality Check (DQC) for the year 2025. The activity was carried out in Barangay Lanawan and Barangay Kaumpurnah as part of the program’s continuous efforts to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of health data.

This final DQC marked an important milestone in concluding the year’s monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring that all reported data met the required standards before the year-end consolidation. The cooperation and support of the barangay health personnel greatly contributed to the smooth implementation of the activity, reflecting a strong commitment to maintaining high-quality health information systems in the community.

On December 14, 2025, Ms. Sheena Ahalul, the National Tuberculosis Program Coordinator, conducted an advocacy activity entitled “Healthy Choices, Safe Places: Smoke-Free and Bully-Free Adolescent Lives” at Barangay Suligan. The activity was attended by adolescents aged 10–19 years old.

The advocacy aimed to promote awareness among young people about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, making responsible choices, and fostering a safe and supportive environment free from bullying and smoking.

The speakers for the activity were Ms. Ridzkha Abdulkarim, AYHDP Coordinator, who discussed the importance of creating a bully-free community, and Ms. Sheena Ahalul, NTP Coordinator, who gave an informative talk on the significance of living in a smoke-free environment and the harmful effects of smoking on health.

The participants actively engaged in the discussion, sharing their experiences and insights. The activity successfully increased their awareness and encouraged them to become advocates of healthy choices, smoke-free spaces, and bully-free lives within their community.

On December 15, 2025, the Municipal Health Office (MHO) of Tabuan-Lasa successfully conducted a Health and Nutrition Education for Caregivers at Brgy. Bukut-Umus and Brgy. Pisak-Pisak. The activity was headed by Ms. Leia Mae Lajot, Nutritionist, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Tabuan-Lasa.

The activity was further highlighted by the presence of the Municipal Chief Executive, Honorable Moner S. Manisan, whose support underscored the local government’s strong commitment to improving community health and nutrition. His attendance inspired both the participants and health workers, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting the well-being of families.

The program aimed to equip caregivers with essential knowledge on proper nutrition, healthy lifestyle practices, and effective child care. Through interactive discussions and practical guidance, participants gained a better understanding of the importance of balanced meals, disease prevention, and maintaining overall family health. The session also served as a platform to encourage caregivers to actively participate in promoting health and wellness within their households and the community.

One Ambulance, Many Lives Saved — Tabuan-Lasa Forward

On December 01, 2025, one unit of patient transport vehicle/ambulance was formally turned over to the Local Government Unit/Rural Health Unit of Tabuan-Lasa by the Department of Health – Supply Chain Management Service (DOH-SCMS). The ceremonial handover was conducted at the iGloo Supply Office in Marikina City and marked another milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery for the island municipality. ND II/OIC-Municipal Health Officer, Edison C. Ballaho, RND, received the vehicle on behalf of LGU/RHU Tabuan-Lasa, expressing gratitude for the continued support extended to the municipality under the vibrant leadership of Honorable Mayor Moner S. Manisan.

The activity was graced by DOH-SCMS Supply Officer IV, Tasneem A. Amping, RPh, who highlighted the importance of efficient logistics and responsive health systems, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. Representatives from the Ministry of Health – BARMM were also present, signifying interagency cooperation in improving local health services. The newly acquired patient transport vehicle is expected to enhance emergency response capacity, facilitate timely medical referrals, and contribute to improved health outcomes for the people of Tabuan-Lasa.

On December 1, 2025, the Mental Health Program Coordinator, Ms. Khairiya Isnain, NDP, conducted a comprehensive Mental Health Awareness Advocacy at Barangay Pisak-Pisak and Saluping National High School. The advocacy activity aimed to broaden the participants understanding of mental health, reduce the stigma surrounding mental health conditions, and encourage individuals to seek help when needed.

Throughout the sessions, Ms. Isnain delivered informative discussions on common mental health issues, stress management techniques, and the importance of early intervention. She highlighted the crucial role that families, schools, and communities play in supporting individuals who may be experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.

The advocacy event was well-received by both students and community members, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights and practical strategies shared during the program. Ms. Isnain emphasized that promoting mental health is a shared responsibility and encouraged everyone to continue fostering a compassionate, informed, and supportive community.

On November 27, 2025, the Balanting Health Staff conducted their School-Based Immunization Program at Balanting Elementary School. The activity was headed by Ms. Myrna Saylana, Nurse-in-Charge, and Mr. Samir Angulo, MECBA, together with their team members Ms. Khairiya Isnain, Ms. Evangeline De Lapaz and BHWs.

The team ensured that all eligible learners received the necessary vaccines in a safe, organized, and child-friendly environment. Parents and teachers expressed their appreciation for the initiative, noting that it helps protect the children from vaccine-preventable diseases and supports the overall health goals of the community.

The school administration also extended their gratitude to the health personnel for their dedication and service. Through continued collaboration between the school and the local health unit, the community aims to strengthen its immunization coverage and promote a healthier future for all learners.

On November 26, 2025, the Saluping Proper Health Staff, headed by Ms. Khairiya Isnain, Nurse-in-Charge, together with her team member Ms. Evangeline De Lapaz, Ms. Myrna Sylana and Mr. Samir Angulo successfully conducted their School Immunization Program at Saluping Proper Elementary School and Saluping Proper National High School. The initiative was organized as part of their continuous efforts to safeguard the health of school-aged children and to strengthen community immunity against preventable diseases.

During the activity, students from various grade levels were given age-appropriate vaccines as recommended by the Department of Health. The health team ensured that all procedures were carried out with proper care, accuracy, and adherence to safety protocols. Parents and teachers were also briefed on the importance of immunization, helping them better understand the benefits of protecting children from common illnesses.

The program was carried out smoothly and efficiently, thanks to the cooperation of the school administrators, faculty, parents, and the health personnel involved. Their unified efforts contributed to a well-organized and successful event that prioritized the well-being of every learner.

Overall, the School Immunization Program served as a testament to the commitment of the Saluping Proper Health Staff to promoting public health and creating a safer, healthier school environment for all students.

One Basilan, One Path of Care: Strengthening Referrals, Saving Lives

The Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Tabuan-Lasa, represented by OIC-Municipal Health Officer Mr. Edison C. Ballaho and Universal Health Care (UHC) Focal Person Ms. Zainab A. Sahijuan, actively participated in the “Updating the Referral Guidelines of the Province-Wide Health System” held on November 27–28, 2025 at Joveth’s Resto, Isabela City. Their attendance reflected the municipality’s commitment to strengthening service delivery and ensuring that referral pathways across the Province of Basilan are harmonized with the evolving standards of the Universal Health Care Program. Throughout the two-day activity, the representatives engaged in discussions and workshops designed to refine inter-facility coordination, enhance patient navigation, and promote efficient continuity of care within the province-wide system.

The activity, organized by the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO)-Basilan in coordination with the Ministry of Health–BARMM, and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (PDRRMO, CDRRMO–Lamitan, and CDRMMO–Isabela), brought together key health stakeholders to collaboratively improve referral mechanisms. Mr. Ballaho and Ms. Sahijuan provided insights based on RHU Tabuan-Lasa’s on-the-ground experiences, contributing to the development of updated guidelines that address both operational challenges and opportunities for system strengthening. Their proactive participation ensured that the unique needs of geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) like Tabuan-Lasa were represented, reinforcing the collective goal of building a more responsive and integrated health system for the people of Basilan.
