One of our impactful projects is 'Transforming Slums into Villages Ensuring Women's SRHR Dignity'. We are working on this project since 2022. Starting with just renovating 8 toilets, the project is now serving over 2500 girls, women and the community people through 55 renovated toilets and 25 newly constructed shower places.
When we inquired the girls and women about their largest concern regarding toilets, they shared the following difficulties when they use them. 👇
👉 Lack of proper boundaries and lock system
👉 Lack of waterline in the toilets
👉 Lack of electricity
👉 Lack of privacy
👉 Lack of menstrual waste management:
👉 Absence of Hygiene Sense
What We are Offering:
👉 Brick wall and roof, pvc door, water and electrical connection, tap inside the water, plumbing services
👉Health campaign with Gyne doctors presence, focusing on Reproductive Health, Menstrual Hygiene Management
👉Community Sessions with boys and men to ensure women's SRHR dignity
👉 Skills development training for young slum women
We have documented significant changes working with the girls and women from the slums. Some are:
- Increased mental well-being as they can keep them fresh with enough water
-Reduced rate of rashes and infection in vaginal areas as they can use clean and sufficient water in toilets in shower and Menstrual Hygiene Project
-Secured and safety is ensured for night time toilet use for girls and women
-Girls come from nearby communities to play with the same-age friends showing a great acceptance of the slum living adolescents
-Better marriage proposals are coming for the girls are coming from -matchmakings because their WASH systems have been improved
-Female who works outside can take their shower before going out that is creating a good impression in their workplaces and ensures personal hygiene
-Husband-wife relationship is improving as the wives are keeping them clean and hygiene
