Part 1: Have you ever considered that some self-care strategies or stabilization exercises could be like planting a seed for your nervous system? Every intentional breath you take to regulate is training your nervous system to change. The more you practice, the better it will work and the more accessible it will be. The same goes for progressive muscle relaxation, for Calm Place strategies and Container exercises, and EMDR resources. The more you integrate them, the more accessible they will be when you need them under stress and the more effective they will be because of the familiarity. What a win to have accessible and effective strategies to help you when you’re struggling!

The longer term reward is also that the more you practice these small things, the more your Window of Tolerance will increase, which means you can start to react differently in situations that might have once been very stressful for you. One small strategy one day one can have a great return for your nervous system!

New Series⭐️⭐️⭐️ How can we look at behaviour change, our words, self-care, etc. as a seed and what kind of harvest can we expect?

Follow along as we explore what it means to plant good seeds in our lives and relationships (self, romantic relationships, parenting) and how this can produce positive, healthy change!

A new thought, for me at least - what if our Window of Tolerance could actually be a Window of Opportunity? What could that opportunity be? Maybe as your window increases, there could actually be more opportunity for connection with others, or more time to relax, or a different perspective than what your trauma is saying? Maybe there are actually more possibilities out that than just not shifting into hyper or hypo arousal?

Today we are highlighting our Internship Program. We are so happy to be able to offer this program to students in the Fredericton area who are counsellors-in-training and who have a desire to learn and grow in skill for their future career. Training new therapists is truly one of my (Gabrielle - hi there) favourite things.

We are also so glad to be able to offer therapy at a discount for those who still want good therapy and a safe space to share and process, but who also need the lower cost option.

Both Taylor and Sage have availability to accept a couple more clients this semester, so reach out today to schedule your first session.

Boundaries Part 5: this is where we discuss what happens and what we do if the person continues crossing the boundary line….remember, the boundary is actually what you are willing to do if the other person continues doing the thing that hurting the relationship. Sometimes we do have to create more distance if they are not willing to walk in a healthy way with you, we just don’t want distance and disconnection to be the first option. We want to do the work so that we can have hard conversations and can have reconciliation in relationships.

Boundaries Part 4: Communication is key. We cannot expect someone to respect our boundaries if they legitimately do not know how we are being impacted. In this scenario, I am not talking about the person you’ve told 1000 times, I’m talking about the person you have never clearly communicated with. We are focusing on what is within our control first and we can control clear communication on our end.

Boundaries Part 3: Boundaries are often confused with control and since we want to make sure our boundaries are healthy - we need to make sure they are not motivated by control, but rather, by a desire for healthy connection in our relationships.

Boundaries Part 2: Let’s take two minutes to notice what is going on inside of ourselves when we are wanting to set a boundary. It is not enough to just notice that you don’t like something - you can take a moment to look inside and understand why. We don’t do this for the other person. We do it for ourselves. Clarity is actually very regulating. Learn to understand why you are bothered by something so that you can make sense of it and can then learn how to communicate more clearly. We will also start learning some new language for our boundaries
