Can you buy anything and everything you want?

For most people, the answer is no.

Most people have some form of income each month. Some people have a fixed and consistent income, whereas for other people it might vary. Either way, the amount they have available to spend each month is largely dictated by this income.

What happens if the amount you spend each month exceeds your income?

You begin to accumulate debt.

The concept of energy balance for weight loss and weight maintenance is no different.

We all have a set amount of energy required to live and perform our daily activities (energy expenditure). For some people the level of energy required remains fairly consistent from day to day. For other people it might vary. Either way, the amount of energy their body requires through food and drink is dictated by their energy expenditure.

What happens if the energy you consume on a daily basis through food and drink exceeds the energy you expend?

You begin to accumulate (increase) body weight.

So what is the solution?

Let’s take a look back at our finances…

How would you go about reducing your debt? You could either earn more money (increase your income), reduce your spending by making some lifestyle changes, or a combination of both.

You might decide to cut down from two cars to one.

You may decide to start cooking more meals from home and eating out less.

You might attend fewer social events. Or holiday less.

Ultimately there are numerous different lifestyle changes available to any individual, and what works best for one person is not necessarily same for the next. We all lead different lives and have different things within our lives which are meaningful to us.

How does this relate to weight loss / weight maintenance?

If your goal is weight loss, you could either increase the amount of energy you use on a daily basis, reduce the energy you take in through food and drink, or a combination of both.

Let me tell you a story…

Two people have the same goal - to lose weight.

They do the same job and work in the same office.

One person has breakfast at home and drives to work.

The other gets the train and grabs breakfast at the station.

One person sits next to a colleague who loves to bake.

They both regularly attend work lunches with drinks.

One lives alone. The other with a wife and three children.

So, what does this all have to do with weight loss?

🖤Am I hungry or thirsty or am I looking for something to do?⁣
💛Do you eat through habit? Try to think if you are hungry or are you just eating because you usually would at this time.⁣
🖤Try not have any distractions while eating, think about where you eat, do you sit at the table either alone or with your family or do you sit in front of the TV and eat while watching your favourite programme. If yes, then can your change your environment to remove these distractions?⁣
💛Chew your food. Take time to enjoy your food, put your cutlery down in between mouthfuls, taste and enjoy each mouthful.⁣
🖤Think about the taste, texture, and smell of what you are eating and take them in, enjoy them and appreciate them.⁣
💛Rate your hunger out of 10, if in the low numbers ask yourself why you are eating? Could it be other reasons such as boredom, emotions, habit or not focusing your attention on last meal/snack.⁣
🖤Be mindful of your hunger while eating not just when deciding if you are actually hungry. Stop when you are full (80% full if in a deficit) even if you have food left on your plate.⁣
💛Allow yourself to eat whatever you like, do not label foods but instead choose to include them in day to day life and enjoy them. Just eat them in moderation, allowing yourself to have them as part of your usual diet you are less likely to overeat when you do allow yourself to have the foods you have restricted.⁣

Who do we help?

Some people who come to us have been a member of a gym previously. Some exercise or play sport on a regular basis; some even compete; whilst others have never been to a gym and do no regular activity.

Some of our members have never been on a diet or worked with a nutritionist, whilst many have tried one or more weight loss strategies previously. Some have tried Slimming World or Weight Watchers; the Cambridge Diet; the latest juice diet; low fat diet or even the cabbage diet; and with varying degrees of weight loss success. Yet many have struggled to maintain the weight loss longer term.

Everyone comes to us with different experiences relating to exercise and nutrition. Everyone has a different lifestyle with different people, careers and interests occupying their time. And everyone has their own individual goals.

We are here to listen to your story. To help you find solutions to your challenges. And to provide support and guidance to help move you closer to those goals.

is the Sensei from Senjokai Karate 🥋 around the corner from the gym; he is a busy guy but getting fitter, losing weight and gaining strength to improve his karate was a priority for him. ⁣⁣

Over the past few months he has been coming to me for PT sessions twice a week. ⁣⁣

We initially started during lockdown outside his Dojo (in the wind, rain and snow!!!), when we finally got back into the gym, we increased the intensity and used a combination of 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 to help him reach his goals.⁣⁣

“How do I get started at your gym?”

We know that getting started at a new gym can be intimidating and can make many people anxious. If this is you, you are not alone!

Our aim at Aristos is to make sure that all of our members find a suitable program for them as an individual, based upon their goals, their previous experience with exercise and their exercise likes / dislikes; and that they feel comfortable and confident every step of the way.

The first step in this process is to book a FREE INTRO chat with a member of our team, to come into the gym (or speak to us over Zoom) about your goals and how we can help you reach them.

Every member who begins any of our fitness programs starts with some 1:1 time on the gym floor with one of our highly trained coaches so we can go through all of the movements with you to make sure you feel happy.

And if you're not ready to come to the gym or your goals would be better supported through working with one of our Aristos nutritionists or coaches remotely, we also have remote options available.
