Here I am at Parliament House in Canberra today! Three years ago on Melbourne Cup Day, I had my first Zoom with PainAustralia and shared my MINDmyPAIN Health Management Journal - created to help patients, carers, and families keep track of illnesses, surgeries, medications, appointments, care teams, and sensitive medical info in one place.

Today I’ve been invited by Painaustralia, as a member of their Consumer Advisory Board, alongside Palliative Care Australia to the Parliamentary Friends event to discuss the role of pain management in palliative care. We’re calling for stronger policy and investment to better support people living with pain as part of life‑limiting illness.

Feeling grateful, focused, and hopeful for change.

🌍💜 September is International Pain Awareness Month – a global campaign helping to spread awareness of issues related to pain.

Chronic pain affects 3.6 million Australians. It’s often invisible, hard to describe, and can leave people feeling unheard and misunderstood.

This month, Painaustralia is:
✨ Aiming to highlight the impacts of chronic pain
✨ Raise awareness around chronic pain
✨ Encourage people living with pain to speak up, seek support, and start conversations about their experiences.

Powerful insights from last week's Australian Ethical Health Alliance Symposium in Sydney!
Joined by Painaustralia CEO Monika Boogs and fellow Consumer Advisory Board Member Mary-Lynne Cochrane, we heard from exceptional speakers including Professor Michael Kidd, Dr Emily Kirkpatrick, Professor Stacy Carter, Professor Christopher Bain, Nina Roxburgh, moderated by Journalist Natasha Robinson Health Editor for the Australian, and Tracey Duffy Department of Health and Aged.

Key takeaways:
- Healthcare misinformation isn't just about wrong facts - it actively delays treatment, disrupts care continuity, and erodes the essential trust between patients and providers.
- Every speaker prioritised the impact of the consumer and patient above all else.

Natasha Robinson summed it up perfectly, noting how reassuring it was to witness our experts truly listening to and centring the patient experience in their work.

In an era where misinformation travels faster than truth, safeguarding integrity in healthcare has never been more urgent. When we prioritise evidence-based care and transparent communication, we protect both individual patients and public health.

Thank you Chronic Pain Australia for sharing my story. What began as a way to make sense of my own health journey has evolved into something truly meaningful. When people tell me the MINDmyPAIN journal feels like I 'read their minds,' it validates exactly what I hoped to achieve - a communication tool that understands the complex needs of people living with chronic pain. 💙

With the arrival of the new year, it’s an opportunity for many of us to review and refine our chronic pain self-management strategies for the year ahead. The MINDmyPAIN Health Management Journal is a powerful resource that can support others in navigating their pain management more effectively, bringing order to things out of our control. 💙

'As people living with chronic pain, we need a resource that documents our own health records and information that is not reliant on doctors or medical teams. One that can be instantly accessed anytime, and can be seen by our family, carers, different medical teams, etc. so we are all working together to get the best possible outcome.' 💙

As I always say, 'Pain is silent, and we need a voice.' I'm grateful to Chronic Pain Australia for helping amplify this message and supporting a tool that empowers people to take control of their own health management. 💙
