A Decade of JPS AFRICA:

A Decade of existence is no mean feat in the business world but for a NPO makes it even more special.

This is exactly what the celebrations was all about on the 15th of October at The Westin Hotel in Cape Town. JPS Africa celebrated our 10-year anniversary with the proverbial bang along with a rebrand as a night of glitz and glam blossomed in the Schappen Island room at The Westin Hotel.

The evening kicked off with Master of Ceremony, Mr Colin Daries having the room in rapture with witty banter and eloquent introductions.

Our keynote speaker, Prof Yogan Pillay provided much insight in the critical endeavours of funding in the health NPO sector as well as MMC in South Africa a decade later. Mr Dayanund Loykissoonlal gave us great perspectives on the work we have done from the National Health Department while Dr Gustaaf Wolvaardt spoke about JPS Africa from his position as Board Chairperson.

Then it was time for our MD Mrs Ida Asia to speak about the history and achievements of our organisation from its inception to where we are now and the direction for the future.

Dr Cynthia Geary spoke about the qualitative perspectives on a decade of progress within the JPS Africa medical male circumcision landscape.

Just before the evening came to a close, Mr Gershon Isaacs provided much needed meaning behind the rebranding and repositioning of JPS Africa and the new logo reveal.

Mr Vusi Mahlangu closed the black-tie affair with an amazing motivational extract about conquering your fears and doing the vote of thanks for all parties involved who made this all possible and a success.

Thank you once again JPS family!

๐ŸŒ World Heritage Day is a time to reflect on the richness of South Africaโ€™s shared identity โ€” our cultures, traditions, languages, and the values that unite us.

South Africa is home to 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the highest number in Africa โ€” each recognised for its cultural, historical, or natural significance. These sites are part of a global effort to preserve what matters most to humanity. But heritage is more than places โ€” it lives in our communities, in the everyday actions that shape a healthier, more empowered future.

As an organisation committed to improving the health and life quality of men, women and children across South Africa, we believe that health is a vital part of our heritage. Through our Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) programme, weโ€™ve performed over 412,572 procedures, contributing to a legacy of wellness, dignity, and opportunity.

On this day, we honour the past, celebrate the present, and continue working toward a future where every South African can thrive.

๐ŸŒ World Patient Safety Day 2025: Strengthening Patient Safety in South Africa

Today, on World Patient Safety Day, we recognise the importance of safe, high-quality care for every patient. This global initiative, established by the World Health Organization (WHO), calls on healthcare providers, organisations and communities to work together to reduce harm and improve patient outcomes.
Patient safety is a fundamental right, yet healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a significant challenge in South African healthcare facilities, contributing to preventable complications and longer recovery times. According to the WHO, up to 1 in 10 patients worldwide are harmed while receiving hospital care (WHO, 2021), emphasising the urgent need for strong safety practices locally.

At JPS Africa, patient safety guides everything we do. Through our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training programmes for clinicians and non-clinicians, we equip healthcare teams to deliver safe, dignified and effective medical male circumcision (MMC) services ๐Ÿ’™:

Clinicians: Training aligns with WHO core standards, strengthening knowledge and skills to prevent HAIs and improve patient outcomes.

Non-clinical staff: Courses cover universal precautions, waste management and occupational safety, recognising that every team member plays a role in patient safety.

This World Patient Safety Day, we call on all healthcare providers and stakeholders in South Africa to prioritise patient safety. By working together and investing in IPC knowledge, we can create safer healthcare environments, protect patients and improve health outcomes across the country.

Mr. Patrick Mahlangu has been a familiar and dependable presence, always going the extra mile. His promotion to Logistics Assistant is a proud milestone in his professional journey at JPS Africa.

Mrs. Keadimilwe Thekisho, who completed her internship with excellence, now steps confidently into her new role as Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant. Her energy and commitment have already made a meaningful impact.
We are thrilled to have both Patrick and Kea continue their journeys with us. Their dedication inspires us all. Letโ€™s give them a warm welcome! ๐Ÿš€โœจ

๐Ÿ“… World Population Day 2025
๐ŸŽฏ Empowering Young People

South Africaโ€™s youth hold immense potential โ€” but many continue to face real, measurable barriers to health and opportunity:

๐Ÿ”น As of Q1 2025, youth unemployment (ages 15โ€“24) stands at 62.4%
๐Ÿ”น In 2022/23, over 150,000 pregnancies were recorded among girls aged 10โ€“19 (SANews, 2024)
๐Ÿ”น An estimated 7.7 million South Africans are living with HIV โ€” many of them young and underserved (The Guardian, 2025)

At JPS Africa, we respond to these realities through targeted and focused action:

๐Ÿ’ผ Our Internship Programme equips young people with workplace experience, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
๐ŸŽ“ Through health awareness events, we promote safer sexual health practices and distribute both male and female condoms to support informed decision-making.
๐Ÿฉบ Our VMMC services help reduce the risk of female-to-male HIV transmission by up to 60%, while connecting young men to broader health education and care.

We also utilise GIS to guide our operational and clinical decisions โ€” helping us identify high-need areas like Phola Park and ensuring our services are accessible where theyโ€™re needed most.

Empowering young people isnโ€™t a theme โ€” itโ€™s a commitment!โœŠ
