The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced today that it will no longer require warnings on hormone replacement products containing estrogen, after over 20 years of including warnings that they may increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and certain cancers.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is used to treat menopause symptoms but was often a topic of concern because of its potential link to an increased risk of breast cancer and other health issues. The drug labels will be rewritten to say that there are long-term health benefits if treatment begins within 10 years of a woman starting menopause.

Talk with your doctor to explore HRT or other safe and effective options to treat your menopause symptoms. Visit the link in our comments to read more about what HRT is and the effects it has on your health.
