Deafblind Victoria was recently featured on ABC, with Nas Campanella sharing the story of Jael Espinal, a Deafblind advocate and project manager who is helping lead important co design work through lived experience.

Jael’s story highlights something powerful about Deafblind communication. Through small movements and gentle touch on the hand, people who are deafblind can share detailed information, emotions and full conversations. What may seem like the smallest interaction can carry an incredible amount of meaning.

Communication in the Deafblind community is deeply skilled, creative and precise. It reminds us that connection does not depend on sight or hearing alone. Human communication can take many forms.

At Tibii, we believe recognising and understanding different ways people communicate is essential to building truly inclusive communities. Every person brings their own way of connecting, expressing and participating in life.

Finding the right Shared Supported Independent Living (SIL) home is not always easy.

Often, the challenge is not the house itself, it’s finding the right match between people, environment, and support.

When participants feel comfortable with the people around them and supported by a thoughtful team, shared living can become a place where independence grows, confidence builds, and everyday life feels more stable.
