TIPS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT:
As you all know we are expecting a great crowd for Hudson Westbrook, here are some tips to make your evening more enjoyable:
**Purchase your tickets ahead of time! You can purchase at the gate but expect to wait in line for transactions to be processed. Our queen contestants have them in hand till 5:00 pm today or you can purchase online! https://www.fayettecountyfair.org/p/tickets-deals
**Ride the shuttle (beginning at 7:00 pm), parking is $5 onsite but the shuttle drives you across town free of charge and drops you off/picks you up at the front gate. Shuttle staging is at the La Grange High School with overflow at the KC Hall in La Grange.
**If driving to the grounds, allow extra time. New stop lights have been installed near the grounds and could cause some delays!
**Hudson takes the stage at 10:00 pm but arrive early and enjoy the many other bands, food and attractions that we have!

In 2017, we made the decision to raise our 3 children in our rural community. We wanted to go back home, and give them the childhood we had.
When deciding between the city and country, it seemed clear that the urban areas had more extracurricular and academic opportunities for youth. However, what is not so obvious is all the unique educational opportunities a rural upbringing can offer. We set out to find, and shed light on all the awesome rural resources.
The summer of 2018, we launched our first youth entrepreneurship summer program. The initiative helped youth ages 7 and up identify a problem in the community that they were passionate about, and then walked them through developing a real solution. The first year, we had 12 curious kids participate. The following year, in 2019, participation doubled as we set forth to create a new resource for the youth in our community.
At the end of the program, the participants came together for a community event: Pitch Rural. This allowed the young entrepreneurs to showcase, sell, and promote their product or solution. We had 250 community members come and vote on winners for the following categories: Best Community Solution, Most Environmentally Conscious, and Best Overall Company. This experience allowed the participants to better interpret their value, and brought them closer to finding a sense of unique purpose.
Throughout those 3 years, we continued to research additional economic problems rural communities are facing. We implemented rural coworking pilots with Rural on Purpose, collaborated with Texas Universities and economic leaders, completed accelerator programs with Google Startup’s Founder Gym and Startup Runner, and most importantly spoke with hundreds of rural community members and small business owners. We now know the solution to both current and future rural issues was right under our country-loving noses: grassroots community development.
There is an information gap between local institutions and their community members. Rural communities have more economic opportunity and value then what is being made visible or even being discussed. Communities deserve a more transparent and collaborative way to determine their future.
This is the value the Rural Economic Development Initiative strives to provide. Our mission to increase resources in rural areas can only be attained by a united community. We established REDI because we realized that a lot of what rural needs, rural already has. It just needs to be made visible and accessible.
Community development happens best with united community vision. We want to help communities learn more about themselves.
