If you’re over 40, you need to start prioritising your health. It’s a bit of a shock but consider, you’re building the body you want now for your eighties. Getting and staying fit is more important now than ever before.
Here are three habits to cultivate now:

⭐Sustainable & consistent strength training
Guess what, now you get to start worrying about your bone density! Weight-bearing exercise develops your bones and decreases the risk of osteoporosis. By “sustainable,” I mean let go of the “train hard” mentality; you need to be able to exercise daily, so work out to a standard you can maintain. Be consistent.
⭐Increased focus on proper nutrition
As you age, your body starts needing a little more help when it comes to staying healthy. This means you need to nourish yourself properly. A balanced, nutrient-rich diet will help your body recover from exercise and put back the nutrients you might not make as much of anymore.
⭐Focus on flexibility
Joints will start seizing up soon, so upping your focus on stretching is essential to maintain good posture and avoid getting a dowager's hump, but it’ll also help you avoid ending up in pain.

Everything about your body is very much “use it or lose it,” so you must make sure you’re using everything you’d like to keep when you’re older.

Hiya, Claudia here!
I’ve gotten a few more questions to answer for you. Here we go!

❓What’s your typical “What I eat in a day”?
I start my day with a cup of black rooibos tea, no sugar, with collagen powder.
Then for breakfast it would be All-Bran flakes or Weetbix, almond milk, and blueberries or a banana.
After my morning clients, I have an almond milk coffee.
Lunch is usually a salad from Woolies or leftovers.
Dinner, I plan on the weekend and do the shopping, most nights we cook at home, but sometimes we end up at Spur on a Thursday, and then I would have a half portion chicken schnitzel and salad.
I don’t generally snack, but sometimes I have a fruit after dinner and two fingers of a Kit Kat.

❓What’s your go-to unhealthy snack?
Love a Kit Kat, but only two fingers, as I know that’s only 100 calories. I love salty snacks and tend to prefer them, so sometimes a packet of Trigz or pretzels.

❓What foods do you actively avoid?
I have high cholesterol and manage that with my diet, so I try to eat plant-based.
I only have almond milk, egg whites. In the dairy section, I won’t have butter or cheese.
I also don’t really like red meat, so I will only have a steak on the odd occasion that my body craves it, but generally only chicken and fish.

First, the InBody scanner identifies a person’s standard weight. This is determined by their
height and the ideal average Body Mass Index. Then, it identifies the standard amount of Lean Body Mass and Body Fat Mass. The difference between these is applied to the InBody score to get a final result.

The InBody Score starts at a baseline of 80, which represents an average healthy human of a certain gender and height. Muscle mass increases the score while body fat reduces it.
Scores above 80 points indicate well balanced body composition, while scores below 80 points are considered to have a less balanced composition of muscle and fat.

It’s World Health Day!

It’s so important to me that everyone knows how multifaceted health is. It’s the fuel you power yourself with, the exercise you do, the ways you let yourself decompress, your gut health, and so much more.

Being healthy is not only about your body, but it's also about your whole being. Physical and mental health work together to make you feel, behave, and live. Striving for better health is a noble pursuit, and everyone should commit to doing better for themselves every day.

Last month at my BNI keynote presentation, I spoke on the topic, “Should you see a dietician or a nutritionist?”

The two are considered to be similar, but that’s a misconception. Dieticians focus on treating medical illnesses, like diabetes or high blood pressure, while nutritionists focus on preventative, holistic health advice.
Nutritionists help you stay healthy and prevent health issues. We’re the front line. You should work with a nutritionist before you have a health issue that requires medical treatment.

It’s Stress Awareness Month.

It's commonly called the “silent killer” and for good reason. Stress is incredibly bad for your mental health and physical health. It causes elevated cortisol levels, which slows fat loss and increases fat storage in your abdomen.

Fascinatingly, cortisol also increases the desire or craving for fatty, sugary calorie-rich foods, which is ironic as it’s probably the worst time to eat this kind of food.
Stress can absolutely contribute to weight gain, among many other health issues.

This April, try your best to manage your stress and try various methods to decrease stress, for a better, healthier you.

Many people think that InBody scales aren’t all that different from normal scales. This is not at all the case! Traditional scales offer only a number: your total body mass in kilograms. That’s it; no further information.

An InBody scale looks at your body composition. Everything that you’re made up of, skeletal mass, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and body water. You get a detailed printout of your exact measurements so that you know what’s really going on in your body.

A normal scale can tell you if you’ve gained or lost some weight. InBody scans can tell you if you’ve lost fat and gained muscle, and so much more.

Get true insight into your body composition with InBody today!

Don’t get caught by the misconception that products labelled as “sugar-free” or “low-fat” are healthy! These traps catch many people out because we’ve all internalised that sugar and fat are bad for you, but that’s not the whole story.

When choosing products, reading the food label on the back is essential to know what you’re eating. It can get daunting to sift through every single ingredient and look up if that ingredient in that concentration is bad for you.

So, I’ve simplified it to the top 3 things to look for on the label.
First of all, always read the per 100g serving size column, as all serving sizes differ, but per 100g will make things easier to understand.
⭐Total sugar per 100g serving: this should be below 5g
⭐Fibre per 100g serving: this should be about 3g
⭐Protein per 100g serving: this should be at least 10g

Get in touch to learn more about how to read food labels the RITE way!
