Influenza-like illness (ILI) cases typically increase during this time of the year. Most cases are mild, but infections can spread quickly in schools and workplaces.
Common symptoms include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Body pains
- Fatigue
Prevention
- Wear a face mask especially in crowded places.
- Wash your hands frequently or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Get vaccinated against flu.
Management
- If you have ILI or any respiratory symptoms:
- Stay home to rest and isolate.
- Wear a mask at all times.
- Consult the UPTC Health Services Unit or any medical professional for assessment and appropriate management.
- Persons exposed to individuals with ILI but without symptoms may continue to attend work and classes.
- Individuals who have recovered from ILI can go back to work or school one day after the fever has resolved without medication (e.g. paracetamol).
