Journeys to Intercultural Wisdom and Equity

We live in an increasingly diverse city where we are more likely to interact with people from different cultures and countries who have been shaped by different values, beliefs and experiences.

Journeys grew out of the cumulative and collective knowledge and experience of the Multicultural Health Brokers Coop in serving individuals, families and groups from many different cultures. Through the learning opportunities in these workshops, the MCHB Coop is able to share this body of knowledge, grounded on the realities of people we serve and strengthened by concepts in the intercultural development field.

The families with disabled children feel isolated and often feeling hopeless. They may not fully understand the conditions of their children and the support available for their children’s potential optimal growth and development. And professionals and service providers within the disability sectors and essential services often do not fully understanding the pre- and post-migration realities of these families and the children. There are often a “gap”in mutual understanding and lack of relationship between families and professionals/service providers

Serving ethnocultural families with children with disabilities under 18 years of age, the Multicultural Family Support with Children with Disabilities (MFSCD) program is available in more than 20 languages. Learn more: https://mchb.org/multicultural-fscd/

Moving to a new country can be exciting but at the same time can come with a lot of challenges such as having to learn a new language, adapting to a new way of life and navigating new systems. Here at the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative (MCHB), we have counselors you can talk to in a safe and confidential space. Because we understand and value the importance of culture in who we are as human beings, counselors ( clinical social workers, registered psychologists and licensed clinical counselors) work , if needed and desired, with interpreters and brokers who share the same or similar culture with you, to help bridge the language and cultural barriers so as to ensure you receive holistic support. We believe that intercultural learning and to be interculturally competent doesn’t “just happen”. It must be intentionally addressed and planned to create safe spaces for all of us to be self-aware, to develop intercultural mindsets and attitudes, and to build skills. Journeys consists of a suite of learning experiences designed to meet the diverse and unique needs and interests of participants. The workshops use a variety of experiential and interactive learning activities for participants available online and in-person.

Learn about our Well-Being and Mental Health Program!

Moving to a new country can be exciting but at the same time can come with a lot of challenges such as having to learn a new language, adapting to a new way of life and navigating new systems. This may feel even more challenging when there is no one to talk to. The resulting stress which can further be compounded by pre-existing stressors (pre-migration stressors) has negative impacts on emotional and mental health and can limit your ability to function at your best and lead a happy life.
