Ever heard the term FOMO baby?
These babies quite literally have the fear of missing out and often require a lot of support with sleep in a way that meets their sensory needs.
Found yourself rocking your baby like crazy feeling like a full on workout? Yep? Then this could be you!
My first was a FOMO baby and it seems my second little guy is too! Both require a lot of that full on rocking, don’t show tired signs, always alert and high energy!
They are both also:
Highly alert
Never switch off
Fight sleep
Get distracted when feeding
Struggle napping out and about
Are awake longer than expected
And likely to be in the move early!
So, how do we tackle sleep?
Firstly, carrier naps! These do the job when out and about (teamed with shhhing and bouncing or dancing around).
We also use the when out and about which is fab for falling asleep and staying asleep in the buggy!
At home we used the white noise of the extractor fan in the kitchen if the big one is home and if necessary make it dark however as little un is still so diddy we do try to do naps in the light where possible!
At bedtime we would use a long window between nap and bed and during settling use dark, white noise and calming techniques such as rocking, stroking and singing along with skin to skin whether it be a feed or cuddle.
So if you have a FOMO baby, you’re not alone! And one huge benefit of a FOMO baby is that they have TONS of personality!
