Meet the team.

We are very excited to welcome Rizaan Behardien into our team of qualified physiotherapists at Core Physio & Wellness Studio.

Rizaan has a keen interest in physiology and high performance training and his long list of qualifications show this.

As well as being a qualified physiotherapist he also has:

- A Certification in personal training
- A Diploma in nutrition and sports nutrition
- An Honours in Exercise Science
- Is a Masters candidate in Exercise Science (Strength training in long distance runners)
- ⁠And is currently doing his PHD in exercise science (looking at concussion in rugby)

Since qualifying, he has worked with hockey and soccer teams at an amateur and elite level.

His style of treatment focuses on “Exercise as Medicine” and he will always try to get you independent and moving as soon as possible.

Book a body composition session with the dietitian at to measure your weight, body water, fat mass, lean muscle mass, protein and bone mineral content, as well as the distribution and balance of muscle and fat throughout your body.

Kelly uses a professional bioelectrical impedance analysis device to perform the reading, which takes only a few seconds and is entirely non-invasive. Your results will be explained in detail and you will receive a comprehensive report.

You will need to stand barefoot on the scale and ideally plan your appointment so that you do not eat or drink for about 1 hour before the reading. Recent intensive exercise can also interfere with the accuracy of all the results, so coming in rested is best.

HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY TO CORE!

A year ago today opened its doors for the first time. And what a year it’s been. We have grown to a team of 4 Physio’s, 1 Biokineticist, 1 Dietician, 2 massage therapists and a mindfulness coach. And we’re still growing. Thank you to all our patients, clients, friends and family who have supported us over the past year!

Yoga & Pilates are both great forms of low Impact exercise, but what is the difference between them? We asked and .scholtz our Pilates and Yoga instructors to break it down for us.

Pilates originates from a German anatomist in the 20th century whilst Yoga from ancient India. Both offer numerous health benefits including flexibility, strength, control and endurance. There are multiple variations of both disciplines which have many overlapping characteristics. Which makes the differentiation difficult to explain.

Put simply YOGA is a systematic practice of breath, movement & mindfulness. It incorporates a variety of set positions or “poses” performed at a variety of speeds and intensities, depending on the form of yoga. Transitioning between each position is done with control and mindfulness. Forms of Yoga range from being relaxing to physically demanding, so the practice can be used in various ways to increase physical strength, balance and flexibility. There is often an element of spirituality or meditation incorporated.

PILATES is a regime of targeted exercises, focussing on stability, strength, flexibility, posture and core. Each exercise emphasizes correct alignment & control to achieve total body conditioning. Pilates can either be performed simply as mat exercises or on a variety of specialist equipment like Reformers and Cadillac’s. The focus of Pilates is primarily a strong core, with controlled and intentional movements occurring from there.

Meet the team Ep. 8 - Belinda Bergstrom - Physiotherapist.

Belinda graduated as a physiotherapist from Wits University in 1996. She spent a few years gaining wide experience in hospitals and in treating mainly children in the UK. She ran a successful practice in Johannesburg for several years before moving down to Hout Bay.

In the past fifteen years Belinda has specialized in treating back and neck issues and also has an interest in dealing with sports injuries – having herself suffered with knee problems in the past. She is a firm believer in the holistic approach to treatment and treats the individual rather than the injury focusing on realignment of the body to prevent re occurrence of injuries. .scholtz
